PCOS and pregnancy?

I am sure this question has and will be asked a million times but I want to know the truth. How hard is it to get pregnant considering the PCOS bit? My husband and I have been talking and we are going to start trying now. The doctor tells me it isn't impossible (THANK GOD!) but it could be difficult. I just want kind of a heads up of what to expect when trying to concieve. (This would be our first by the way)

Also just in general how did you handle learning that you PCOS? All I know is I kind of had a mini meltdown until I found this site and a couple others where I learned I am far from the only one.

Thanks in advance.

I won't lie. It can be quite difficult and depending on severity of ones case can be almost impossible. I started my tycoon journey when I was 19. My husband and I tried for a year on our own (with only metformin). It didn't work and we finally got a referral to an RE. Even then it took almost a full year and ovarian drilling surgery to get a sticky bfp.

However, there is hope. I'm now 23 with a 16 month old son. I am also currently 23 weeks pregnant with a little girl. Don't lose hope, it is definitely possible. I wish you luck. Just be open to the possibility of needed some outside help to make it happen.

I learned I had PCOS at a early age, I was 16 (currently 31 yrs old) I had started my periods when I was 11 and then by the age of 16 I had nothing! was put on the pill to regulate but since I wasn't sexually active at the time I forgot to take them all the time. Got back on the pill at 18, went off the pill at 26 (2006). Continued to have a period that first yr off the pill. Then 3 times a year, and then nothing from 2008 - 2009.

My hubby and I have been married for 9 1/2 years and have been trying since Sept 2009!  Currently on a break!

I have PCOS and wasn't have a period so I went to the doc and he put me on Provera and Clomid. I did this for 4 months and took a break because we were moving to a new house and I didn't want to waste it being stressed out!
Then I found a clinical trial in Michigan for women with PCOS who are ttc. May/June 2011. Everything was free (awesome) but when I went in for testing (hysterosonogram) they found that my endometrial lining was very thick and I have a uterine Polyp, so I couldn't continue with the trial until I had a D&C.

So 6 months later (after I got some health insurance) its January 2012 and I finally get to the doc and February 2012 have Hysteroscopy/polypectomy with D&C done.  2 weeks later at the post op apt I learn that I have " simple Hyperplasia with Atypia" (pre Cancerous) and I am put on a 6 month treatment plan. This condition is reversible and only has a 8% change of turning to cancer. I am taking Provera days 1-14 of each month to bring on my period, 1000mg of metformin per day, and weight loss (20 lbs down).

Just went (June 4th) to the doc for my 4 month post op visit. I have been tracking my temps like I always do and he confirmed that I ovulated for the first time in MANY years in May!  I have also Ovulated this month but just waiting for temp confirmation!  My DH and I are extremely excited about this because It means we are on the right track FINALLY!

We are not supposed to get pregnant during this treatment plan because my precancer will continue to grow during pregnancy and could be worse later. So he are holding off for now.  I have to have a Second D&C to recheck my pre cancerous cells. This will be done end of August early September! So if my cell reversed we will get the green light to start trying again! We will also start using clomid to bring on Ovulation/ stronger ovulation if I ovulate.

Well there is my story! It is for sure difficult but each person is different and has a different form of PCOS too! You need to ask for ultrasounds and a hystersonogram, blood work too.Get on Metformin if you aren't already, its supposed to be the best drug for PCOS and so far I think it has helped my Loose weight and Ovulate!  I am hopeful that come October we can start trying again and be pregnant early 2013!

I hope my story helps you!  Good luck :)

I was relieved when i found out what was wrong with me, for months my regular had me believing all my problems were in my head. And i also felt sadness at the thought i may never have another child and anger at the women who do have children and don't look after them, so many stories in the news and people i know about child abuse or negelct. And jealousy seems 4 of my cousins are pregnant right now. And hopeful that things will turn out just fine. i think if i didn;t have hope or faith i'd have given up. But my fiance and daughter are the ones that keep me going, daughter doesn't understand why she doesn't have a brother or sister like all her friends and cousins. Goodluck and i hope it all works out for you and your husband

I'm 32 but was with my ex for 12 years also and it happend once after 8 years i didn;t know i was pregnant and miscarried at 7 weeks, i kinda felt relieved because i was in a bad relationship too and didn't want a child to be bought into it. With my fiance we were only together 8 weeks when i fell pregnant with our daughter. Weird how things work out for the best.

Well, I'm 36 and pregnant for the first time. I had always been told it would be difficult to get pregnant. I had attitude that it may never happened, but if It did, It did. I eventually figured it never would. I was with my (ex) husband for 12 years, and it never happened.  Now, I've been with my bf for a little over a year and I'm 10 weeks. My doctor said that I must have just been relaxed and comfortable enough, and my body decided it was ready (bad previous relationship, and my current one is like a 180). So, yes, I think it can be difficult, and maybe be longer than you like, but very possible. I wasn't on anything, but I know there are medications you can try that will make conception easier.  How did I feel about the diagnosis? Relieved!!! It put a name to all theae symptoms I had, and made me feel less alone finding Pcos communities. I'd rather not have it, of course, but hopefully you feel better, too, knowing there are supportive ppl out there.
