Possible weight gain with Metformin

I was diagnosed with PCOS in August of 2010 and was put on Metformin, one pill a day to help regulate my menstrual. I have been very active and lost 100 lbs before being diagnosed, and so exercise and eating healthy are not a new thing to me. I exercise 6 days a week, and since being on Meformin. The medication is working with one problem, but I'm not sure why it isn't helping in the other area of weight. I heard that people loose weight with Metformin! So I'm stuck as what to do?? Any suggestions??

Metformin does NOT help or cause weight loss - for some it can be a side effect of the medicine but in general it is not what the drug does or helps with in and of itself.

Metformin works by suppressing glucose production by the liver.
