Provera and Clomid along PCOS

I have a few questions, I have been diagnosed with PCOS, and my husband and I are trying for our first child, I started taking Clomid 50mg and had no ovulation, so my doctor gave me a off brand of Provera to induce my period since I don't get them regularly, took that for 7 days, and two days later I started my period, now I'm taking 100 mg Clomid and started taking that on day 5 of my period which I should only have a couple more days left before stopping my period, my question is, when should I start checking for ovulation, and when should my husband and I start having sex, What ways should I go about checking for my ovulation, and any other tips would be great!
Thanks :0)

Yes.I was about to take it but I wanted to be sure that I was not pregnant first. I am  glad I did because even if I had AF it would not have gotten the tubal pregnancy out of my body.

Best of luck and Baby Dust! Keep us posted!

Well, I took Provera and 100mg of Clomid this last time and I didn't ovulate so, the doctor wants me to come in and see her, on the 5th of January and I'm going to mention that med to her, and see what she thinks because I have tried the 50mg of Clomid and 100mg of Clomid, and never did I ovulate, but while taking Provera I started my period which I never really have regular ones until I took Provera, so maybe something else will help, and sorry about the tubal pregnancy.... good luck next time!
So before even taking provera you were pregnant with Metformin?

I started taking Metformin 500 mg extended release for the first week. Then moved up to 1000mg. I was supposed to take provera to start my period three weeks after I started metformin then take Clomid 50 mg. I took a pregnancy test first and it was positive! SO yes I did get pregnant. It was a tubal pregnancy and I have to have a shot to remove it but I did get pregnant. Metformin has helped me to ovulate and has given me a regular 30 day cycle. I am just now able to start trying again and have take Clomid 50 mg to make sure that I am ovulating.

Remember that metformin is used to help control your glucose levels which in turn helps your body produce the female hormones it needs to ovulate. So it only helps you to ovulate. Clomid convinced your body to make more of a chemical to make you ovulate. I have only taken provera once and I did not like how it made me feel. I will not take it again.

Did you take the Provera and Clomid along with the metformin, and that made you ovulate along with a period.? Did you become pregnant with this? What were the doses that you were required to take?

Have you considered using metformin? I have PCOS and my pds were 3, 4, or 5 months apart. I started taking it and it immediately helped! My periods are now 30 days apart. Here is some info on it:

"The Whole Story"

Metformin (Glucophage) is a pharmaceutical drug often prescribed for women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). It is an insulin-sensitizing biguanide commonly used to treat elevated blood glucose levels in people with Type 2 Diabetes and often employed as an off-label prescription for PCOS. This means that it was originally used only for individuals with Type 2 Diabetes but is now prescribed for PCOS patients because it has similar actions in both groups.

If you have PCOS, you may be insulin resistant. With this condition, the ability of your cells to respond to the action of insulin in transporting glucose (sugar) from the blood stream into muscle and tissue is greatly diminished. Metformin improves the cell's response to insulin, and helps move glucose into the cell. As a result, your body will not be required to make as much insulin (1).

PCOS and Metformin Studies

PCOS and it's symptoms of hyperandrogenism (acne, hirsutism, alopecia), reproductive disorders (irregular menses, anovulation, infertility, polycystic ovaries), and metabolic disturbances (weight gain) have been linked to hyperinsulinemia and Insulin Resistance (2). Therefore, it makes sense for you to address the hyperinsulinemia and Insulin Resistance caused by this condition.

Studies have reported the treatment of Metformin to improve hirsutism, induce ovulation and normalize menstrual cycles (1). For example, according to one study, which looked at 39 women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and hyperinsulinemia (excess insulin in the blood), treatment with Metformin for women with PCOS resulted in a decline of insulin as well as total and free testosterone, leading to significant improvement of clinical manifestations of Hyperandrogenism (the excessive production of androgens in women) and an improvement in menstrual cycles (3). However, studies have also shown weight loss through exercise and changes in diet and lifestyle alone to be as effective in regulating menstrual cycles and showing improvement in hyperandrogenism (4, 5).

Hope this helps a little!

Go to CVS or a local drug store,  there is a ovulation kit made by ANSWER.

I has 20 sticks and a pee cup! Pee in the cup around like 2pm and dip stick (follow directions)  if the test line is darker then the control line you are going to ovulate anytime and you should "get busy" asap.  if not darker you are not ovulating yet! it can be confusing.

my doc said to have sex from cycle day 10 - 20 every other day.  you could also have more sex then that but!

If you are not pregnant and you end up getting your period on your own, then you did ovulate.  if no period and not pregnant then you did not ovulate!  then you need to use provera again.

Good luck
