Right Ovary Removal

by dishydaish19, Jan 19, 2008 04:07PM
Just to give you a little background on me since this is my first post...I am a 27 year old woman who has never been able to get pregnant.  I have a 2 year old son through the miracle of adoption.  I was diagnosed with Stage III Endometriosis several years ago and have a "possible" diagnosis of very mild PCOS.  They can't officially diagnose me because I am not insulin resistant or overweight (I guess these are key factors?) But for YEARS I have suffered from ovarian cysts.  I have never had a regular period cycle and my first ruptured cyst happened when I was 14 and it occured on my right side.  My left ovary has never had more than the normal cysts that all women have.  My right ovary, however, has caused me grief for years and my OB is suggesting that instead of doing a radical full Hysterectomy that I would greatly benefit from a right ovary removal!?

Has anyone ever just had 1 ovary removed?
By having one ovary removed...did the other ovary start working better?

I am excited about this option because I could possibly get rid of my symptoms without having to go through menopause before my mom (sad thought huh?).  She also mentioned (of course, with no guarantees) that this surgery may allow my left ovary to begin working properly which could result in a pregnancy finally?!  I figure that would be a bonus since we plan on adopting again anyway...but I am a woman...I would love to experience carrying a baby and giving birth.

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!
