Slow weight gain

Im very concerned. My dad, who's a doctor, diagnosed me with PCOS. I lost my period a few months back, I do have hair on my abdomen, more than a girl should, and Ive had minor hair loss, but I dont know if to relate this to being underweight. People who suffer from anorexia do have hair loss and Ive had hairs on my abdomen since puberty, so Im quite confused. Also the biggest issue here is Im eating normaly, and a good amount of calories, though Im sedentary, and Im still gaining weight, despite trying desperately to maintain.

Does PCOS make you gain weight slowly but surely? and does it stop? or do you just keep gaining and gaining like crazy? what can be done to stop the gaining?
What causes me to gain weight in the first place?

any help will be great
I really desperately need to know because Im completely new to PCOS and its symptoms.

Am trying to follow some. Walkin n Yooga are part of schedules nw wth restricted diet..
Hope to get results sap, as goiing through the gynaec treatment as wel.

YES!  PCOS can make you gain weight slowly.  I put on 12 pounds a year for the 5 years before I was diagnosed.  I was exactly the same - completely changed my diet to whole grains and whole foods, drank tons of water and tried to do everything right and didn't exercise really but I was a waitress so I was very active everyday (the last thing I felt like doing when I got home from working on my feet all day was exercise!), and it just kept on coming!  I even tried exercising for a while, but gave up cuz I was still packing it on!  I kept asking doctors if I had PCOS, and they just kept saying "you're too skinny" - until I finally gained enough weight (60+ lbs) and they took me seriously and ran tests to confirm it!  The good news is, in the 2 years I've been on Metformin, I stopped gaining weight completely (until recently when my PCOS really acted up and I was getting cysts all the time throwing off my hormones).  But for 2 straight years - nothing!  Now I will say that it's extremely difficult to lose it, but at least I stopped gaining!

But I will say that I do not eat much in the way of refined sugars - which is key to preventing weight gain with PCOS.  This includes white breads and pastas, obviously anything sweet made with white sugar (cookies, cakes, many cereals), soda, fruit juice and things made with white flour.  There are plenty of great whole wheat pastas (which I still eat pretty sparingly), obviously lots of good breads, etc...  But these days, you have to be careful even with "whole wheat bread" many of the companies including pepperidge farms and arnolds breads are adding high fructose corn syrup to wheat bread to sweeten it!  This astounds me because the purpose of eating wheat bread is to avoid the refined sugars in white flour, and then they go and add the worst refined sugar of them all!  HFCS is your enemy with PCOS!  You have to start reading labels.  I did find one variety of pep farms "natural whole wheat" bread that did not have HFCS in it.  

The other very helpful (but expensive) thing you can do is start buying everything organic that you can.  Not just fruits and vegetables - think of everything you put in your body.  Research has shown that pesticides and preservatives contain tons of estrogen, and this is exactly what our bodies already produce too much of and can throw things off.    

I'm concerned that you mentioned anorexia, and confused because you say you are eating normally and a good amount of calories.  Is this something you've struggled with? (I did as a teenager)  You certainly don't want to be starving yourself with PCOS.  Another thing is to try to eat every 2-4 hours.  Obviously small meals or snacks.  It's tough (especially while working and such), but it helps keep your blood sugar from spiking, which is part of what causes the weight gain.  That's why refined sugars are bad, as opposed to the naturally derived sugars in whole grains.  Natural sugars digest more slowly and evenly, and last longer.  Refined sugars cause a spike in your blood sugar and throws off your insulin balance, and that starts a domino effect that causes excess testerone and whatnot, and the final result is weight gain.

Hi friends,
Its Nehal.
Am trying for a baby since a year. And lately i got to know that, i have Poly Cystice Ovary Disease (PCOD).
Kindly help, how should i go about it, although M TAking hormonal treatment, but scared till end of my nerves, whether am having fair chances of concieving or no?!
My husband count also found to be lesser than expected.
Please suggest something.

an isulin resistance is what i was told is the reason I gained so much weight. it was slow coming on but they gave me metformin and the weight is fast coming off.
