I just had a D&C and mirena insterted. Sinse I suffer from polysestic ovaries my period lately started to act funny and didn't stop. So the doctor prescribed me a D&C and Mirena on the case summary apart other things there is written : -

The mirena has a thread at its end which has been kept 2 cm long. This thread helps to check whether the mirena is in its proper place at subsequent visits to the Doctor. This is a normal procedure and it will not cause you any harm.
