It's true. PCOS has a wide spread of symptoms. Some women never get a period, or just a couple every year (my boyfriend's Sister is like this) and for others (like me) I always got a period each month...just it wasn't regular. Also, a doctor can diagnose you without having an ultrasound because not all women have the abnormal "pearl" like cysts that is common for pcos. I don't have any cysts, so giving me a dozen ultrasounds did nothing but annoy me and some hurt. Most women get diagnose with PCOS due to having many symptoms and by getting a blood test to check on certain hormones.

Some symptoms include, but are not limited too:

Irregular periods, spotting between periods, no ovulation, excess hair (face & body), weight gain, hair loss & skin problems.

It sounds like your symptoms can be reveresed with the weight loss. And for most, losing weight is the key to going back to normal.

Well, keep track of your ovulation. Just because your overweight doesn't mean you don't ovulate. Use your OPK's, and when you start seeing another line...just start trying! The metformin should help too. Plus while being on metformin, when you do get pregnant if will reduce the risks of misscarrying, so that's another plus of being on metformin.

Not necessarily.  You can have monthly cycles and still have PCOS (it is not usual but it can happen).  Here is a website that I think you will find useful.  I hope you get things cleared up soon.  You can always come to the ovarian cyst forum and ask questions.  There are many AWESOME women there who an answer questions and give great support.  Good luck!!
