giving up!!!

Hi well I am new to this hole talking to people thing so .... here it goes! I am 19 years old I have never had my period I have had test after test done to the point were I hate doctors, but I still want an answer. when I was 16 my doctor told me that I have PCOS and put me on Yasmin 28, and 21. I took  that for about 2 and a half years and I still was not getting anything. I then gained a bunch of weight and I am now 260 - 280 lb. (my weight is never steady) even to this day. The pills were making me sick so I stopped taking them and now no sex drive at all or anything for that matter... I have most of the PCOS signs extra hair, the weight, no periods, the cyst... but i also get a stabbing that runs from my heart to my ovaries.  I need to know if I should go and get a second opinion on maybe this site could help me find a doctor to find out what is really wrong with me. Hope to hear something anything that might help.

That's good that you're going to try it; keep in mind that if you exercise, when you first start, you might not lose a lot of weight.  You have to give your body time to adjust to the change.  When I started the diet, I didn't exercise and I lost a lot of weight fast, but it is healthier to excersise too.  Good luck.

kateri, going on a low carb diet really helped me out before.  I have been dealing with other issues lately and haven't been in the mood to diet or even take care of myself, but when I did the low carbohydrate diet, I lost a lot of weight and I think within two months had my period.  It was after that that I finally conceived my husband.  Try it!  I have known of other women who try it and it works for them too!

My doctor himself told me that birth control pills help regulate your period, therefore, you ovulate.  They worked for my sister as well,

i also have pcos. im on yasmin bc pills (no side side affects) and also take metformin 500mg 1x a day since 9/14. to this date i have lost 34.5lbs and starting to feel better. u dont have to join any special gym or diet, just do it on your own like me. i started walking alot more and limited the amount of sweets and junk food and cut out regular soda. the only way pcos will get better is by losing weight. you should talk to your doctor about going on metformin, its the medicine that is typically given to women who have pcos. but in order not to feel really sick while taking it, you must follow a healthy diet. i made that mistake last year and got sick everytime i took it because i wasn't following a diet. good luck

PS: babypooh- birth control pills WILL NOT help you to ovulate. birth control pills help to prevent pregnancy.

babypooh is right, in order to control your PCOS you have to take control of your life. Which means changes... Try eating low carbs, that helps alot. Also, exercise. Changing your life style will help with the PCOS and will also make you feel better.  I would go back to the doctor and tell him u want a whole work and I will still get a second opinion. Good luck

It does sound like you have PCOS.  Have you ever been on birth control to see if it helps you ovulate?  Doctors usually prescribe that to help ovulate.  Have you had surgeries to remove the cysts before?  You know what, when I gained a lot of weight the last time, I got on a low carb diet and it helped me lose a lot of weight and that helped me get my period back.  Maybe you should try that for a couple of  months and see if it helps you too.  I have heard of a few women who did the same thing and it helped them too.  Cysts can cause all kinds of pain, but if you feel like you might want to try another doctor, it wouldn't hurt.  Go ahead and see if you feel that they're helping you more.
