thanx a lot for the information. i will talk to gyn abt tht...
I am not telling you what medication to take, just what worked for me.... I have PCOS and Endometriosis, I was put on Metformin & it did not work for me. The dr told me there was nothing left for her to do....I went to a new dr & he did a laproscopy which diagnosed my Endometriosis. I was put on Chlomid, was pregnant the next month (2005). In 2008 I had another laproscopy, cleaned out, put on Chlomid and was pregnant the next month with twin girls (2009). I wanted to share this so you know that there are other options out there if Metformin does not work for you. Good Luck!!!
First thing that i am not a diabetic. my blood sugar level is normal which is 4.1. i am given metformin to loose weight. Whenever i ask my gyn why i am bleeding less she always tell me to loose weight. i am 162 lbs and i am 5 feet 2 inches. last year i did 6 round of clomid with metformin but nothing happened and most importantly i lost about 10 kg last year but i didn't conceive. but recently my gyn found som prob with my hubby he is on medication now. he is fine now. my gyn told me to loose weight and everything will b fine.... neways let's hope for the best...
**** Also because the blood tests I listed above are important because around 75-80% of women with PCOS may have some degree of insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is thought to be one of the root causes of polycystic ovarian syndrome.
My physician did order the test prior to putting me on Metformin. The reason was because they needed to see what my blood glucose was without medication intervention. A blood glucose test ordered to measure the amount of glucose in the blood right at the time of sample collection. It is also used to detect both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, to help diagnose diabetes, and to monitor glucose levels in persons with diabetes. Most doctors before putting a women on Metformin for PCOS, usually do one or all of the following blood test:
Fasting Glucose Test,Fasting Insulin Test,Glucose/Insulin Ratio,Glycohemoglobin A1C (HbA1C). They are all test to check the amout of sugar in your blood. As you are prolly aware of abnormalities of blood sugar and insulin are quite common in PCOS.
I just started Metformin 500mg today! actually about 1 hour ago I took my first pill!
I am to take 1 pill per day for 1-2 weeks and then up it to 2 pills a day for a total of 1000mg
Did your doctors do a blood glucose test before putting you on metformin?
My doc did not so I was wondering if that is normal!
lynn
hello, I had this happen when I first started Metformin 1000mg daily in May 2010. I was told by my RE that as long as I bleed a little that is a good thng, its your bodies way of cleaning itself out. Have you spoken with your GYN? I was recommend you just talking to your GYN, since they know your medical history, and they would be able to determin if the bleeding you are having is ok or not.
Good luck!
