why did birth control do this

by shadyma, Jul 09, 2008 06:35AM
When i turned 17 i started taking birth control so i wouldnt get pregnant, when i turned 18 i stoped taking birth control. When i stoped taking birth control i stoped getting my period. I havent  had my period in like a year and a half. Befor i ever started taking birth control i had perfectly normal periods.  I have went to the doctor and they tell me to take birth control to fix the problem.  But i dont to take birth control because thats what started this problem and at the time i am not sexualy active.  So is there any kind of pill or herbals i can take to make my period come back to normal or suggestions i can give my doctor for him to prescribe me somthing. I have herd of a pill called chasteberry i was just woundering if this might help me or what it might do. I dont have anything wrong with me like im not overweight or to skiny im not stressed or anything like that, that would make me not have a period. So what should i do?

I was prescribed birth control when I was 20 to regulate my cycles...before that I only had one period per year. I am 28 now and discontinued b/c a couple of months ago. When I didn't have a period for 2 months, it was no surprise to me, but I knew it wasn't healthy not to have one so I went to a reproductive endocrinologist who prescribed Prometrium, which is a synthetic form of progesterone. You take it for 10 days and then you should get a period a couple days after being off of it. It's sort of like a kick-start to regulating your cycles. I have had regular periods ever since, so maybe it will work for you. You only have to take it for one stretch of 10 days. I know that it does not work for everyone after the initial induced period, but it's worth a try!!
Good luck :-)
