I was on Efexor for over 8 years. You don't act spacey or lost on it. It is more the valium based anti-depressants that will cause that kind of behaviour. Especially if the person is taking more than they should.  If you are worried about taking it, don't be. if you know someone on it and they are acting that way, you need to have a serious discussion with them.

adverse effects related to effexor(venlafaxine) are nausea,somnolence,sweating dizziness,anxiety,sexual disturbances and hypertension

Been on it for bout 2 years...  no issues.. but side affects are a strictly case by case basis...  Has been the best SSRI for me out of 3 I've tried...

Effexor is an anti depressant (SNRI) and what concerns AD's it is very personal, I was allergic to it... The list of side effects is endless. Here's a link where you can read more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venlafaxine
