4 days late and negative tests

We are TTC our 2nd child and as of today, my period is 4 days late.  When I tested this morning, with an early result test, it was negative. My cycles are very regular, I even used the ovulation predictor strips and I am NEVER late. I am almost certain I am pregnant as I've been experiencing several pregnancy symptoms - my breasts are sore, I'm very tired, I've been nauseous here and there, etc...  6 days ago I had ovulation type pain on my right side, off and on, for about 4 hours, which I attributed to implanation.

If I am indeed pregnant, shouldn't my hcg level be high enough by now to make an early result test positive??

I am worried I could have an ectopic pregnancy - wouldn't that keep my hcg level lower? But I've read that with those you bleed, or at least have spotting, and I've had nothing at all.

Has anyone experienced a test coming up negative after being late at least 4 days and actually been pregnant? Of course I keep comparing this experience to my pregnancy with my son - which I found out 4 days prior to my missed period!

Thank you!

I hope everything works out...that being said. I had a negative urine pregnancy test but the blood was positive.  It was an eptopic on my ovary. I was in a great deal of pain and my clothes barely fit a week after conception. I wouldn't worry until you have more info. Call your doctor and ask for a blood test....good luck...btw...I never had any kind of spotting
