Can you still conceive if you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

Hi All,
My husband and I have been trying for almost a year now to conceive.  No Luck.  My aunt had given me some herbal medicines that supposedly can get you pregnant.  I haven't tried them yet.  She had given them to me before I found out that I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.  I recently found out that I was diagnosed with this condition late May of this year.
Anyways to make matters short.  My periods were extremely awkward. Since early April, my periods have been irregular.  I had my period for almost 2 months!! Had a pap test done right after my period was over. Results came back normal, except for the blood test drawn to check my TSH level.  They were slightly under the norm range.  Taking syntroid 0.075mg as prescribed by the doctor, for 3 weeks now.  My periods are still irregular.  My last period lasted for 2 weeks. It stopped for 5 days and it started again. What do I need to do to try to conceive under this condition?  I don't know when my period starts and stop.  My assumptions are pretty close to how long they last.  I want to try my aunts herbal medicine, but am skeptic because they aren't FDA approved or bought from over the counter.  I dont know whats in them.  Looks like onions to me. My aunts tried the herbal medicine and was able to get pregnant.  She used them and was able to have her 3rd and 4th child, not even one year apart.  And now shes pregnant again w/ her 5th child. Her first two kids were 10 years apart. What are your suggestions?  I love kids and can't wait to have one of my own.  I am more concern now because of my conditions. Can I still conceive???

Im 24 as well with hypothyroidism. Im on 60mg of desicated thyroid. I went off the pill 1 and a half months ago. I got my period 2 weeks after I went off the pill. My husband and I are trying to conceive as well...I hate the waiting game!! My period seems overdue but after reading some comments it sounds like I might not even get a period for a long time. I just wonder if I am still able to ovulate?

Ive been doing a lot of research on thyroid and pregnancy. Are you feeling any symptoms of low thyroid? When was the last time you got levels checked?

I have hypothyrodism as well. I am 24 and trying to start a family. That's up lifting to hear the comments. I can't have my period on my own so I'm very concerned because of it. Do you think its because I need to up my doses? I'm at 100 mg.

I am 21 yrs old and I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 20 right after I had my baby. I want to have more children after I get my 1st degree, and i will be around 24 or 25yrs old. do you think it will be hard for me to have a child then.how did you become pregnant so quick? did you do any special techniques?I am currently on birth control, I have it implanted in my arm. I get it taken out in 3 years. I just started it 6 weeks after my daughter was born on october 3rd 2008. Do you think that will make it harder to try and conceive in 3 years or so?I would like to have my children right now but i can't because of financial circumstances.thats why i have to wait until i get my degree. I just hope its not to late.

It took my husband and I 20 cycles and clomid to concieve (but I also have a unicornate uterus and 1 ovary & tube).  I was diagnosed at 7 weeks hypothyroidism.  When that child was 6 months old I had thyroid cancer and was told after treatment I wouldn't be able to concieve.  SURPRISE!!!  My youngest is now 9 months.

Keep it under control and you should be fine.  Make sure your doctor stays on top of your level to prevent m/c (I have had many).

Good luck!

I used the ovulation detector last month and it said I should have ovulated around the 15th... but according to the blood test, we conceived on the 24th... so, I'm not sold on the ovulation kits.... it might work for you though, it's worth a try!! I have a friend that it took longer for her to conceive and her doctor told her it was due to the hypothyr. They put her on the meds and it was corrected and she was able to conceive very quickly.

Totally possible to conceive but my RE said to be sure to have your thyroid levels checked during pregnancy as it is VERY important during development - even if it is slightly low it can make a big difference in IQ of your child.  Make sure it is well controlled before you conceive!!  Good luck!

You can totally conceive. I have hyporthyrodism and conceived with both pregnancies the first month we tried.

I did not like Synthtoid at all, had VERY bad luck with it. With my first pregnancy I was up and down all the time. That is NOT a time to have your thyroid levels change alot, can be very bad for baby.
i had all kinds of problems with Synthroid even before I concieved (the first time)
I switched to Armour Thyroid and love it. It is the natural form of thyroid, not synthetic.
I have only had to change my dose 1 time this entire pregnancy (Im 34 weeks). I can tell I feel so much better on it.

Good book to read The Thyroid Solution.

Any other guestions I can help you with let me know. I have been thru all kinds of thyroid hell.

Also, gotta really watch which herbs you take. Some Herbs can actually make the thyroid worse. Vitamins are good. There are different types that are really benenficial
