How accurate are Ovulating tests?

I've been doing ovulation tests for a couple of months now. The first 4 showed i had an ovulation around 12 days Before m'n menstruation. The last 3 months however, im not able to detect an ovulation. My menstruaal cycles stay regular around 31 days. Perhaps i'm getting the timing wrong? TTC for quite a while now and getting a bit less precise? Getting a bit frustrated on the other hand as wel. Any tips or ideas as to why i'm missing it? And how big are the Odds im not ovulating while my menstruaal cycle is still regular?
