PCOS

I'm just wondering if there is anyone who has been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, how they were treated, and if they had success conceiving.  I have been seeing a specialist who believes that I have it, and prescribed Metformin.  I'm absolutely terrified now that I am going to continue having trouble - I've had two miscarriages in the past 5 or 6 years.  My husband wanted to wait a couple of more months before ttc, but now he's in a panic too.  Any info would be helpful!!  Thanks!

Hi.  I've been on here for a while now - I like reading about people who have the same problems as me I guess.  So I'm not going anywhere.  Funny thing with my PCOS is that I have never had a problem with AF or ovulating.  The specialist said he was surprised I was able to get pregnant at all, but I can feel when I ovulate, and I don't think it's a problem.  I've been taking the Metformin now for less than a week, and it hasn't been too too bad - I just feel like I have a hangover every morning, and a little bit nauseated otherwise, but if the result is what I'm looking for I can deal with that.  DH wanted to wait to ttc until the fall, when I find out if I can get another contract at my job or whether I have to return to my other job (he doesn't want me there and pregnant), but now because of this diagnosis he's panicked and wants to ttc now.  My d&c was in April, so I think we're ok to try.  The only reason I went to see a specialist at all was because my baby died because of a blood clot, so I wanted to see if he would recommend aspirin.  What tests did you have that they diagnosed you with PCOS?  Mine was just bloodwork, so I'm kind of skeptical.  If all goes as it usually does, I will be ovulating in about a week - wish me luck!!  And I of course wish you luck - you'll do it.  Talk to you soon!

I have PCOS. I have one DS that will be six this year. It took a year, but I conceived on my own with him. This time I have not been so lucky. I have been off the pill since Feb. and just did a round of clomid last month. I am on cycle day 37 and I have not had AF. It makes me so frustrated I could just cry. :( I have taken 3 hpt's and they have all been BFN's. So once again the PCOS strikes and no preggo this month! I totally understand your concerns. I actually have a doctor's appointment today at 3 and I am hoping that she can do another u/s. I just don't have any good answer's. I had not been Oing on my own, but I was having AF. The clomid helped me O, but now I have no AF??? We had tried about a year ago and during that time I did not have AF for 3 months. They finally had to give me provera to start her up, but my cycles were irregular and I never Oed. I did not try clomid at that time. I am trying to learn everything I can about PCOS and from what I can tell I may need to be on Metformin to help with the Oing and AF. I hope you decide to stay on this website, so we can share! I need all the support I can get and I am sure you feel the same way! :)

I have a friend who had trouble conceiving for over a year.  She was finally diagnosed with PCOS.  I'm not sure of the treatment, but as soon as the PCOS was treated and under some control she conceived.  She lost that baby which they told her had nothing to do with the PCOS, and then conceived again after just one cycle.  That baby was born and is perfectly healthy.  Good luck!
