Pregnancy 35+, on pill since 17

Hi everyone! It's my first time on here. My husband and I have been seriously discussing having a baby. We've been together for almost 14 years.I'm 35 now and know the risks at my age when starting to conceive. This is one concern, another is that I've been on the pill since I was 17 and I've never had a 'scare' or miscarriage. I'm concerned going off the pill and will I have those horrible long painful periods again? What is it like off the pill, better? I have many friends that have had no problems after 35 years of age or others that can't conceive.  My doctor back home (I lI've overseas - which is another issue) says that once I'm off its like a lottery, you never know. Just asking for some advice. Thank you.
