Yes that does, it was very informative! (: Thank you very much ladies. It makes a hole lot more sense to me now !!
A mans sperm can impregnate 2 eggs at the same time. Women can drop several eggs while ovulating its not really a one-and-done process. Also, a fertilized egg can divide. The two are called fraternal and paternal. Theres debate over which side carries the highest potential of twins (either mother or father), but it is less likely to occur unless it already runs in the family.
Fraternal twins are hereditary, but identical twins are not. Fraternal twins occur when the woman releases more than one egg in a cycle. Thus, it is only passed on through the mother's side. Even if your bf has twins on his side of the family, nothing about his sperm could make you more likely to ovulate multiple times. It will however pass on those genes to any daughters that you may have. I am currently pregnant with twins and my doctor says that is normal for them to skip a generation; not be born into the family each generation.
The reason identical twins are not hereditary is because they are from one egg which spontaneously splits into two embryos for no known reason.
Even though twins are a possibility for you, that doesn't mean that you will have them. My great-grandfather was a twin and so my mother and her cousins and sisters all swore that one of them would have twins. Together they had more than 25 children, but none of them were twins. I also believe that mine are not due to a genetic predisposition, but I became pregnant at a time of my life that was very stressful for me. I always track my ovulation by body temp, rushes of fluid, and by machine, and I had already ovulated with no history of multiple ovulation. And now not only am I pregnant, but from two different eggs.
So, in short, becoming pregnant with twins could be due to external factors or could be hereditary, but only based on the mother's family history.
I hope this helps you somehow.
From what I hear its hereditary. Me and both my sisters were supposed to have a twin, but in all three cases the baby on the left side didn't make it. I was pregnant once before but had a lot of health issues and couldn't continue with the pregnancy :( but in that one i was carrying twins. Which is what may have caused my issues. I was afraid it'd happen with this pregnancy but I only have one this time and no health risks :) twins can happen two ways. Two fertilized eggs, and one egg being split.
Twins are more likely if you have twins in the family on your side thebdad doesn't matter because its your egg that determines it. You could either 1) drop two eggs that both get fertilized resulting in fertenal twins or 2) your egg splits in half then multiplies and forms two babies which is identical twins.
I don't know much about twins mainly cause I am a first time mom but both of my parents are boy girl twins and out of us 9 in the family none of us are twins. And my brothers and sisters don't have any kind of twins
