15 weeks pregnant too soon?

I am 14 weeks and 3 days pregnant today (my first baby) and I have my monthly check-up with my Ob/Gyn next Monday, 12/31 (I will be 14 weeks and 6 days pregnant). Is there any way he will be able to see what the sex is? How common is it for it to be determined at this stage in the pregnancy? We have another appointment scheduled at 20 weeks but I was hoping we could see something prior to that...I am soooo anxious to know what we are having!

Also, does anyone know the risk for miscarriage at this point (the heartbeat has been 162 bpm for the last several appointments)... I am so neurotic and nervous about something going wrong. Thanks for any help! :-)

Hey....If the baby is going to be a boy, they can usually tell earlier because they can see his little "part" sticking up, but at early gestation, both boys, AND girls look the same, but a boy will be more obvious sooner, because you can see his part. A boys part can start to stick out anywhere between 10-16 weeks, some earlier than others, but that is why a doctor doesnt like to tell you the sex before you are 16 weeks....Because if it looks like a girl, and you are not yet 16 weeks, it could still possibaly be a boy, and his part just hasnt started showing yet....

Well I went to my OB today and to my surprise she did an ultrasound.  I am 10w1d.  It was still a transvaginal because the baby is still so small, but I wonder if that helped in what I found out.  First of all I was not at all expecting the ultrasound, but was more than willing since my last was at 6w5d and I wanted to see that baby thriving!  She was pointing out things and then she shocked me by saying that if she were laying down a bet that she thinks it's a boy and pointed out a little, but obvious thing between the legs!!!  I was so surprised by her saying that!  So I guess I learned your answer today!  I think most docs won't say though that early.  I had already seen what I suspected was a penis, but hadn't said anything.  I figured it was too early.  My DH saw it too, so I think we are all in agreeance!  Good luck at your scan!  It will be awesome!

My first ultrasound was at 14 weeks and my doctor told me it was to early to tell but i still think it wasn't she just wanted me to wait for my next appointment 18 weeks to make sure she give me the correct gender. I have a friend that is the same amount of weeks as me and she was told the gender at 14 weeks.

That's not corny at all!!! It sounds beautiful... does that mean you're getting an amnio? That's one surefire, but risky, way to know for 100%.

At 14 weeks the genitals are not distinguishable... they look so similar to one another it'll be hard to know!

I conceived on November 9th of 05, and found out the sex on January 24th. I was right at 13 weeks and it was VERY obvious that it was a boy! I had just had an ultrasound 10 days earlier and the tech said she would just take a look to see if she could see anything, but he wasn't developed enough yet. What a difference 10 days makes! I have the ultrasound pic with his little teeny legs open and his boy parts. I think it also depends on the machine and how good the tech is. We had a very clear picture. The tech said that she's not supposed to determine the sex that early, but that it was pretty obvious that I was having a boy.

You never know! If it's a boy, I think you'll be able to tell. Like I said, I was right at 13 weeks when I found out. Good luck and let us know!

micarriage rate should be at 3%.  Most of the time they wont do the sonogram at this time so they probably wont tell you.  also i was told that all babies at that stage could have bumps down there that look like boy parts.

My friend used to work as an ultrasound tech and she said that it is EXTREMELY hard to tell the difference at 14 weeks between the sexes, but almost always can tell by 16 weeks...so maybe!

I thought about doing the Intelligender test thing but my husband and I both agreed we would rather wait and have the doctor put the sex of the baby in an envelope and then open it over dinner with each other.. it sounds corny but it is our first baby so we are really excited! :-)

I will keep you posted...  Thanks again! :-)

Try one of those intelli gender things. You can buy them at www.intelligender.com! Pregnancy Magazine wrote an article on it. They have a 90% accuracy rate!!! You can find out what you're having when you are little as 10 weeks pregnant.

If you do this, you have to let us know what happens and if it is correct!!!

Finding out this early could give you the wrong answer.  I dont think any doctor will tell you what they "think"  I think the earliest is 16 weeks and I think that's when they know FOR SURE that it's boy parts.

I think you could find out what is it, around this time the parts start to form better. But they wouldnt give you a for sure thing becasue its early.
