21wks, bleeding?

I'm 21 weeks today, and I started bleeding this morning. I still have my period, doc said it was okay. But not supposed to have it for another 2-3 weeks. And tonight, I noticed while I was lying down, I had some discomfort in my stomach. Sitting up was worse, and standing almost brought me to the ground. I heard my baby's hb tonight with my fetal doppler--it's my first pregnancy, and I'm clueless. My mom esaid sleep it out, and see what it's like in am. I need help, what should I do?

Well first of all, while you may have a good bit of vaginal bleeding during pregnancy, it is impossible to have your actual period. Sometimes the bleeding does occur around the same time every month, but it is still not your actual period. Some bleeding is okay, but if you are bleeding heavy like a normal cycle or soaking through pads, specifically if you have to change your pad more than every couple hours, you need to call your doc and/or go to the hospital. I'm a Labor & Delivery nurse so from experience, sometimes vaginal bleeding is nothing, but sometimes it is. Best wishes to you!
