38 weeks pregnant, 4 cm dilated, and 60% effaced

I am 38 weeks pregnant today, 4 cm dilated, and 60% effaced.  I am wondering what I should do to get this baby coming during daytime hours.  My 2nd child came in the middle of the night and way too quickly, and I have alot of anxiety about going into labor in the middle of the night and having to deliver the baby at home.  Any good suggestions?

Can't you go to the hospital now? When I was PG I THOUGHT my water broke( it didn't) BUT I went to the dr he felt around down there and then told me to go down stairs and check in. I was about 4 cm too. I was 2 weeks early too. I checked in at 1230pm and didn't have hm till 12:34AM.

ask your doctor to see what your options may be. he might consider stripping your membranes but even that is uncertain. only nature can tell when its time.

They do not admit until you are 5 cm and contracting consistently unless you are at a very intervention happy hospital that is going to try to put you on medication to make labor go faster (and harder).

At this point, your body is doing a great job on its own.  Make sure your bags are in your car and the car seat is installed and ready to go.  Make sure you are relaxing and even get a warm bath in (your skin should NOT change colors), no soaps and all that though if you can avoid it.

There is no way to predict when baby will come, but you should try to relax and know that if baby does come during the night (most labors at a night, when the uterus is more sensitive to hormones) and hospital staff is prepared for you at ALL hours!!
