5 weeks and no sac!?

So I am 5 weeks 1 day preggo with my second child and I had woke up today with some pretty heavy bleeding. I went in to the doc to have an ultrasound done but the doc was unable to see the sac. She sent me to get my hcg levels tested and I'm still waiting to hear the results. I'm pretty worried that I am miscarying and I was wondering if it is just too soon to see the sac and if there is still hope of having a healthy pregnancy

Seeing the sac and the fetus are 2 different things. With my current pregnancy I was able to see the sac at 5w2d and the fetus starting at 6w1d. BUT not every baby develops the same. I would wait to get back the blood results and go from there. With my 3 miscarriages, I never had anything more than light spotting til after the dr gave me meds to help it along. By 6 weeks however they should be able to see at least the sac, and maybe a fetal pole. Good Luck!!

I don't know about the bleeding; that's really scary, but I've been told that if you don't have major clots/tissue and a lot of painful cramps there's still a good chance that it's just bleeding. Hope you get good news from doc.
From what I've heard it's not unusual to not be able to see a sac at 5 weeks; I've seen women post that they've gone in at 6 weeks and still seen nothing till a follow-up check at 8 or 10. Just remember it's pretty teeny right now.

I'm sorry that you are having a tough time of it right now.  I'm not a doctor so I really cannot say anything about whether heavy bleeding and not being able to see the sac are indications of a miscarriage.  I would think that at 5 weeks the sac is pretty small to begin with.   I think though that thiere is always hope and that until you hear otherwise, try to keep a positive attitude.  I know it is easier said than done.  I am praying that things go well for you.
