6w2d yolk sac, but no fetus. Still a chance?

So I had an emergency ultrasound today to rule out the possibility of a molar pregnancy. My levels are super high, 28583 at 6w1d. I'm 6w2d today. I had a bedside ultrasound done yesterday afternoon that showed a gestational sac but no yolk sac fetal pole or heartbeat, so my OB ordered an emergency ultrasound for this afternoon.

The gestational sac is measuring right on, 6w2d, and there was a yolk sac, clear as day, but there was no visible fetus. I didn't see my daughter until 6w4d though.

Anyway, based on the gestational sac measuring right on and there being a yolk sac, is there still a chance that there is a fetus, or is this a blighted ovum?

I wouldn't worry hon..... It took up to almost 9 weeks before my daughter's heartbeat was seen..... The ER doc told me in JAN when I had my m/c that at 6 weeks the baby is too small to even see....

Doc isn't so optimistic. He said that normally with a gestational sac that big, we can see a fetus and a heartbeat, and my ultrasound is indicating a blighted ovum right now, but he doesn't want to jump to conclusions, considering the sac was right on schedule and the fact that I didn't even see my daughter until 6w4d. So, I have another ultrasound scheduled for Friday at 12:30pm and I see him again on Friday at 7:30pm.

I have never had a belightned ovum or a molar pregnancy, but I know when I was four weeks pregnant they did a u/s for dating purposes and they were not able to see anthing. When I was 6 weeks there was a gestational sac, yolk sac and a fetal pole. If the doctor did not seem concerned then maybe there is nothing wrong but i do have to agree that if they dont see anything by 7 weeks then there is probably a problem. Good Luck.

sometime women don;t see the fetal pole til 7 weeks.  you still have a chance.  are your hcg levels rising?  i would have them check those tomorrow and again on Thursday or Friday.

I would wait until the other u/s I had a blighted ovum at 7 weeks which they said they should have seen something by then. Good luck and keep us posted

i was about this far along when my doc. told me I was having a blighted ovum. I waited a couple more weeks for another ultra. & it still showed nothing. Just try not to worry as hard as that is, but there is a chance that your baby could still be there :)

Not really. Apparently sometimes it can take up to 8 weeks to see a fetus. When given that I didn't see my daughter until 6w4d, I'm not too concerned.

Yeah...I guess a week is good...but waiting can be so awful!  However I'm sure that you'll have a more definitive answer in a week...did they seem concerned?

I don't have one scheduled yet, but the radiologist recommended to have another next week

I guess with your history of not seeing your daughter until 6w4d you shouldn't rule anything out...miracles do happen!  Sounds like a blighted ovum to me though...sorry to say it...I feel guilty now....the missing pole is what makes me think so...when are you doing another u/s?
