I see my doctor any time I want.  He knows my fears.  I saw him and had an ultrasound almost every week until 12 weeks.  His official first appointments are at 8 weeks though.  I would find another doctor!

I live in Ca and Dr.s see you over here as soon as you get a BFP. Of course they just confirm with urine test, then send you for all your lab work, then do an u/s around 8 weeks. I have had 7 m/c's and I got an early u/s this time and had my blood monitored in the beginning.

Wow...I was seen at four weeks as I expressed some fears of miscarrying again.  My next appt was at six weeks to have an ultrasound, but I began bleeding due to low progesterone. I ended up seeing my midwife every week til 12 weeks, then it became every four until it turned into every two and eventually weekly.

I live in the U.S. (notice some posters are in other countries)...here the OB generally sees you around 8-10 weeks for first appointment then every 4 weeks until a bit later...then it changes to every 2 weeks...then every week when due date is near. This is for a normal, uncomplicated pregnancy. If there are complications (for example, I had spotting and an ultrasound showed I have a low lying placenta) they see you more often.

This is my first pregnancy, I am 39weeks now but when i was about 4weeks i was scared about loosing the baby because it had taken me a year and half to conceive.
I rang my doctor, told him i was pregnant and after that i wasn't seen until i was 12weeks and then again when i was 20weeks.

I know its hard not to let your mind wonder but you shouldn't worry. As the other ladies have mentioned, if you are that concerned then go to the ER and they will put your mind at rest.

Good luck hun and ihope it all works out :)

I'm in Canada, you go to a clinic, they test you then send you to a doctor, who then proceeds with ultra sounds and check ups....Many!

You won't see a  doctor until 11-12 wks generally. Then you wont go back until around 18wks and then 31 wks.  Unless your blleding or some other eason there no point.!!!  Just sit back and relax, take your prenatal vitamin and eat well and get lots of rest

This is not uncommon.  Many many doctors, even for women who have had miscarriages, will not see you until atleast 10 weeks.  This has been my experiences with every ob I've been to.  Believe me I've seen MANY.  It's not dumb.  They do this because in early pregnancy, first of all, there isn't much that can be done.  An ultrasound isn't likely to show much.  If a first time mother goes in for an ultrasound at 6 weeks are her dates are off by even a few days, it's going to cause her undue worry and stress when they don't see a fetal pole or heartbeat.  Yes, they CAN check HCG levels and make sure they are rising properly but, again, if the levels aren't where the woman THINKS they should be, it can cause her undue worry because normal HCG levels vary so widely.

To the original poster:  What sort of health concerns are you worried about?  If it is something that is very likely to affect the pregnancy, just take yourself to the ER or an urgent  care clinic. You also have the option of finding a faith based free womens clinic. They typically have ultrasound machines and will perform a free pregnancy, test, do a consultation and an ultrasound.  That may help ease your mind (or make you worry more depending)  Otherwise, try to relax.

I have been pregnant 8 times, I've had two miscarraiges and a stillbirth and I have 5 kids.  Even still, Ob's don't see me until atleast 10 weeks, unless I am spotting or cramping.

that sounds straight up dumb to me! idk how they do it around there but when i found out i was pregnant i was only 4 weeks, i waited a week to make an apt and i had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks, at my first visit! if you have to, go to the er and tell them ur having pain or something even if ur not, they should at least give u an ultrasound or at the very least have a dr see you and talk with u about your baby. u shouldnt have to go on worrying bc i know i was extremely nervous about losing my baby before my first appointment bc i wanted to just make sure everything was okay.

I think it is normal for an OB to not see you until you are 2 months along. I think I saw the doctor for the first time at 10 or 11 weeks with my daughter (21 years ago)...about the same with my second child (19 years ago)

With current pregnancy, I saw my primary care doctor for a pregnancy confirmation (they just did the same urine test I took at home) at about 5 weeks and got a referral to an OB/GYN. I saw the OB at 8 weeks.

The important thing is to start taking your prenatal vitamins and eating a nutritious diet. The first trimester is very important...folic acid in particular can help prevent some major birth defects that would form during this time.

What sort of concerns do you have about the baby?

yes doctors and midwifes prefere not to see you till ater you have missed your second period as there is less chance of miscarrige...as soon as your second period comes contact a midwife and tell them...good luck hope everything goes fine.
