Am I being a jerk?

I made my husband order a blood testing kit to find out his blood type on the off chance I won't need the rhogam shot, I hate shots I really really hate them yet I can get a tattoo or donate blood no prob. Now I know he will most likely have a different blood than me since mine is relatively uncommon ( o neg) but I've been asking him to find out for a long time and we both know I need the shot for our baby I know that my insurance covers it but he doesn't and keeps asking how much it will cost of course I won't take money from him but I told him that he should get the test to find out his type so maybe we wouldn't have to get the shot. Am I being mean because I feel he should have his blood tested on the off chance I won't need the shot? He ordered it and even had it overnighted here.

The thing is the hospital will NEVER take your word for it that that's his blood type. Most insurance companies don't pay for type testing because its unnecessary. In the event of an accident, even if you have your blood type tattooed across your forehead they will still type you again, and if there's not time they'll automatically give O-

I had to get the shot my blood type is o negative I don't care what blood type my fiance is I hate needles also but I lost my baby the first time and I wasn't going to risk it again so I took the shot I rather take it then not take it and something happens to my baby....getting a shot is no where near as bad as labor so I didn't even worry about if it would hurt or not...

O neg isnt relatively uncommon by the way . The two blood types alot of people have is o pos and o neg .. ab pretty sure is the uncommon one .. .. you will need to get the needle being neg doesnt matter what the father's blood type is

Yes, the fathers blood type DOES matter. I'm RH Negative as well. If the father's blood is positive it can cause complications for baby/mom and future pregnancies if the baby has positive blood type like dad. They do give you a shot anytime you experience bleeding during pregnancy and at a certain point during pregnancy, ( I can't remember how many weeks) also after birth if the baby's blood type is positive. I had to get the shot prior to an amnio as well since there was a chance of bleeding.  Although I don't believe a doctor would opt out of giving you the Rhogram injection based on a home blood test. It's best to get the shot even though you hate needles, better safe than sorry.

If the dad has positive you won't need the shot.
I just went through this for being negative.

Have him donate blood and they will tell him for free what type he is.

The dads blood has nothing to do with it .. i just received the rhogam shot if you have negative blood type you have to have it .the shot is not for this pregnancy particularly its precautionary for you next pregnancy your body will not produce enough antibodies to do any harm by the end of ypur pregnancy but by the next pregnancy it could do damage ..

I've heard the father's blood type has nothing to do with it. It's the antibodies in your blood. Or lack of antibodies I should say. Around 28 weeks your body will start producing antibodies to attack the babies blood. That's why you need the shot. Father's blood has nothing to do with it. This is what my Dr has told me

Yeah, pobably is a good idea to know in case of an accident or something. We've had the same family dr for the last 10 or so yrs so I'm sure I could just ask next time we go.

I've always thought it was important to know your own and your spouses and children's blood type incase anything ever happens I've asked my husband many times even before pregnancy to find out and he hadn't so I really just want to know lol

Wow, he's a good boyfriend. I wouldn't have a clue what blood type my husband is. But this is our 2nd baby and I've needed it. Unfortunately tho due to complications I've had loads of shots and bloodwork throughout both pregnancies. I guess some are unavoidable. Good luck, I hope you don't have too many!
