Am I in very early pregnancy?

Hi...has anyone ever had a serum HCG test of 20 and been pregnant?  I just did 2 home pregnancy tests that were positive and had a blood serum test with the doctor yesterday that was only 20.  He said he cannot be sure if I am pregnant or not.  I had some light spotting about a week after my period and thought I should check it out.  I want to be pregnant so badly!!!

Yes definitely get your HCG levels tested again. Any HCG number over 5 means you're pregnant, but you just want to make sure the numbers are doubling because if their not that could mean you're in the process of having a miscarriage. Wait 48 hours from the last time they were tested and test again. Good Luck!

i would suggest you get your levels taken more than once to make sure they are doubling.  I had a MC back in oct and just found out i am pregnant again.  My HCG on 1/2 was 42 and doubled to 89 on 1/4 and that is a good thing.  you want your hcg to doudle at least every 48-72 hours.  What does your OB say?  Good luck to both of us:)

I hope that it is just very early in your pregnancy..we believe I had a chemical pregnancy my first pregnancy. I found out I was pregnant 5 days before my period.. then 4 days after my period was due I started having cramping and spottng that escalated to full fledged bleeding.. I went to the ER and my HCG level was only an 18.  They said either it was very early or a miscarriage. unfortunately the next morning I was passing clots and went back to get my levels re-drawn on Monday and they were already down to a 5 so I did indeed miscarry.. i hope this is not the case for you.. goodluck..

It was under "what happened to me"  but I will copy and paste :0)
When I was about 5 weeks along my hcg level was only 57.  I felt discouraged but they said everything was fine.  A week later I m/c-my levels went down to 17.  What I have read on line is this:

"Chemical pregnancies" are sooooooooo common...almost EVERYONE has had one.  What happens is that HPT are so accurate these days that people take them early and get a + but then AF arrives a day or two later.  The egg and sperm meet but never progress.  You can google "chemical pregnancy" and research it.  People not taking the HPT's just think AF was a day or two late and never even know they were preg for a even a second.

You say you had spotting a week after your period?
When was your last period?
I hope that it is just to early to tell.

Well, some unhappy news for me.  I was still having some pain on my  left side yesterday so I went to my Dr. who did a serum test again and a rush ultrasound.  I got the results back this morning and found that I have had a miscarriage and my HCG levels are now only 2.  I am sad, but still very hopeful for the next time.  We have been trying for 3 years to get pregnant and it is amazing that I got a positive test to begin with.  Thanks for all of your comments. :)

I would take a trip back to the doctors to see what they say. Usually anything over 5 is a 'positive' pregnancy, but I would double check your levels.

Hi Ladies,
Thank you so much for the info and encourgement!  I am going to have another HCG test done this week, so hopefully it is going up!  The spotting stopped on Friday after I was at the ER, so I guess that is a good thing.  I did another HPT this morning, just for kicks, and now it is negative????  My mind is in so many places right now and I cant stop thinking about what is going on!
