Hi,
I had an anti-d shot when I had my D&C last year. I was really freaked out about having O- blood for a long time because of the chances of harming a baby. However, anti-d shots are so effective and there's really nothing to worry about. I am about 6.5 weeks now and had had a blood test that involved screening for antibodies - if I had these then I would need a shot and extra care. But I don't have them so it's fine. I think if someone was really worried they can request a screening to ensure that your body hasn't made up antibodies due to blood mixing
sorry about that :-) i mustve been having a dopey moment...
im glad your chances are great! best of luck to you... xx
my baby didn't have downs, that i believe is trisomy 21? trisomy 13 is also called platau's syndrome (i think). We are lucky that we now know it was just a "fluke" thing that the chromosones got messed up at conception. I only have a 0.75% more of a chance of it happening again, then someone else my own age.
Thanks for your kind words
thanks to all...
im not scared as such it was more just unexpected as I didnt actually know my blood type. it'l all be fine just a bit weird knowing its partially derived from blood. id do anything to protect my son though it took us a long time to get him. :-)
evthing4reason - im so sorry to hear of your loss. i work with downs syndrome people and they are some of the most beautiful people I know. Your baby blessing will come back to you again one day... he or she will always be with you. xoxox
I have o- blood they gave me one shot when they found out my baby had trisomy 13 at about 18 weeks, i was induced the next week and they had talked about giving me another shot but then decieded that because i wasn't that far along the one shot was fine, i hope it was.
I only have to have the shot once which was at 28 weeks and if the baby does come out positive they will give me another shot after birth
my blood type is 0 neg.. and I was given the rhogam shot at 28 weeks and it didnt hurt at all and I had no side effects
