Anyone have O- blood type and have to have Anti - D Injections?

Hi all -
I just recently found out that I have a O-negative blood type which I think means I have no resus antibodies in my blood? Most of the population do. It basically means I can give blood to anyone but only 0negs can give blood to me if needed. I have to have an injection of Anti - D (which is retracted from a positive blood type -yuk!) at 29weeks (now), 34 weeks and again when babys born we both have it. Im definately going to have them so my blood doesnt (potentially) attack the babys blood which is why they give them to you. In precaution.
Im not overly concerned as theres apparenty no risk I just thought it was odd and wondered if anyone else has the same thing and what they feel/ think about it?
thanks ladies! xx

Hi,
I had an anti-d shot when I had my D&C last year. I was really freaked out about having O- blood for a long time because of the chances of harming a baby. However, anti-d shots are so effective and there's really nothing to worry about. I am about 6.5 weeks now and had had a blood test that involved screening for antibodies - if I had these then I would need a shot and extra care. But I don't have them so it's fine. I think if someone was really worried they can request a screening to ensure that your body hasn't made up antibodies due to blood mixing

my baby didn't have downs, that i believe is trisomy 21? trisomy 13 is also called platau's syndrome (i think). We are lucky that we now know it was just a "fluke" thing that the chromosones got messed up at conception. I only have a 0.75% more of a chance of it happening again, then someone else my own age.
Thanks for your kind words

im not scared as such it was more just unexpected as I didnt actually know my blood type. it'l all be fine just a bit weird knowing its partially derived from blood. id do anything to protect my son though it took us a long time to get him. :-)

evthing4reason - im so sorry to hear of your loss. i work with downs syndrome people and they are some of the most beautiful people I know. Your baby blessing will come back to you again one day... he or she will always be with you. xoxox
