Anyone have experience w/ Implanon?

I'm 22 years old married and have a 3 year old son and 5 week daughter. I'm 98% sure I don't anymore children. I want to concentrate on me now like going back to college and getting my career started up, of course also concentrate on raising my children. But for my own personal reasons I wanted to give myself 3/5 years to completely decide see if I still feel the same, if so then I will go a more permanent route.

I went for my 4 week postpartum checkup and decided I would try the implanon. It was between the merinia and Implanon. Reason why I did not go w/ the merinia was because the high risks of miscarriages. I understand neither is 100% but if I were to end up pregnant I would want to Carry out the pregnancy. I would not be able to emotionaly handle a miscarriage.

Can you have sex using the Implanon as the only form of birth control?

I had it for around a year, cant say it has been my favourite but it was effective at preventing pregnancy. For me it worked like the depo, no periods, but very flat moods, no ups, no downs, I couldnt get excited about things, but neither could I cry...I felt quite emotionless. Dont want to put you off at all, loads of folk love it, but keep an eye on your moods and if you start to feel very little happiness or sadness, then its probably the implant which is to blame.

I had the implanon and it did work as the only form of birth control. But I had a bad experience. It messed up my periods. They apparently put it in wrong, I had pain the entire time I had it. Couldn't put my arm down. They couldn't get it out during removal. It took three doctors. And i still have pain in that area 9and months after getting it out. But I know people who had it and loved it.

I had the implanon but I had negative side effects…it messed up my periods to where I would have a normal period for about 3-5 days and then 2 weeks later I would have another one and then it would be 6 weeks or so before I would get another one…there were other side effects like the decreased sex drive, it sucked getting taken out because it was stuck, I almost had to go into day surgery just to remove it.

I never got pregnant while on the implanon, it's good for some people though and has no negative side effects at all.

Yes. It was the only thing which actually worked for me. I had it for 3yrs. I fell pregnant with both the coil and the pill which I was taking like clockwork. When I had the implant fitted I bled lightly for 3 months which was extremely annoying but after that my periods got further and further apart until they stopped in the last year. I thought it was great, but everyone reacts differently and some things suit some more than others, which is why there are so many options. The decision is yours but my.mum and also several of my friends have the implant and all say it is fantastic.
