BC Pill question

My girlfriend and I are sexually active and have been for almost a year. We use several methods of birth control as we are not fully ready for children (even though we would manage if this did happen). Our methods that we use EVERY time we have sex are: Birth Control pill, Condom, and withdrawal. Normally, my girlfriend starts her period during the first 1-2 days of the inactive pill week. Her last period was five days long and came on time so there is really no concern for pregnancy before that point. However, it is about mid-day on the second day of her inactive pill week and she still hasn't started yet. I am just confused if she HAS to start on the first two days or could it be anytime this week? In other words, if she does not start today, is she considered to be late? I'm know for being way to nervous around this time of the month. She doesn't seem worried at all and told me I shouldn't be because with our three birth control methods, there is virtually no way (Btw, I always check and our condoms have never broken and I have never "came" inside of her). But I just thought I would get some opinions on here.

So, should I be concerned or am I over-reacting?

Yes it's fine. I'm 18 and she's 19 almost 20. The only reason I know so much is bc I think it should be kind of a "joint" effort in making sure we know whats going on. But yes we are very precautious when it comes to bc.

Theres ALWAYS a chance of pregnancy unless someone practices abstinince (sp?)

However I think your being very responsible with the methods you use.

Can I ask w/out offending you how old you and your gf are??

(only because it's rare for a man to be that knowledgeable about his GF's period and bc methods.... my hubby has always been aware of all the facts cause i'm clear w/him and explain it in detail so he gets it. lol)

thank you so much for your help krushing.....she actually got her period tonight and everything has been normal so far. I believe that the stress has just made her a little delayed. Or it could just be normal. Either way, she got it so I am not worried anymore! Thank you again!

If her period doesn't come by the time she is to start her new pack of bc pills, then she can take a test then.

Thank you...I'm trying not to stress. I wish I was as calm as she is. She's not worried at all. But just for the record, I want her to take a test if it doesnt come soon....how soon can she take it accurately?

No, it doesn't have to be just before her period.  Technically her body is changing the entire month.  So, any stress, anytime, could cause a delay.  If she is cramping and stuff, I'm sure it's on its way.  I wouldn't stress.

I know that technically my gf is not late until the end of this week, but it is just not like her for her period to come this late in the week. Today is day 3 of her inactive pills and she still doesnt have her period. She woke up and had some bad stomach cramps, but still nothing. I'm just wondering about how worried should I be? I mean, with the THREE BC methods that we use (Pill, condom, and withdrawal), pregnancy would really be nearly impossible right?

And I'm still curious about the stess thing. I mean, she was very stressed out this month, but it was not necessarily right before her period. So could that still cause her to be late or would she have to be stressed just before her period was due?

thanks again for the info. That makes sense and I'm getting the feeling that shes going to have it this week because she told me this afternoon that she was cramping more and she felt like she would start very soon. But Im going to get a HPT if she doesnt start just to make sure. Thank you again!

Yes, those can be signs of oncoming period.  I was on birth control pills for 7 years before I stopped so hubby and I could start a family.  In the course of the 7 years, I missed at least 4 periods, due to stress.  I would always miss a period, but then always get it the next time.  Take a HPT at the end of this week if she doesn't get a period or go to the doctor and get a blood test.  If it's negative, I wouldn't worry and just look for it next time.  If she misses two in a row, then I would definitely go to the doctor.

these could be signs of an oncomin period...the headaches can often be associated with stress as well.....TMK, she is not late unless she does not start before the end of her "inactive" pills.....so i guess you could say she would not have missed a period, until she starts the next pack.....

thank you. We do always practice all three methods of BC so pregnancy would really be a miracle. I just worry alot. But I did have another ?. She has been complaining of a headache for the past day or two (not constant headache, but off and on. this has been during her placebo week). She has also had a little bit of cramping. Could these be signs of an oncoming period?

There is no need in worrying, if you practice all three birth control methods everytime you have sex.  A woman's body is very complicated and just the slightest thing (stress being the major problem) can cause her to be late.  When I was on birth control pill I wouldn't start my period until the 2nd or 3rd day of my inactive pills.  Just give it time.  If she doesn't get her period after a week, then I would take a HPT to see if by some miracle she got pregnant.

There has also been a more than normal amount of stress on her this month, but it hasn't been in the days just before her period. I don't know if that could cause her cycle to mess up, but I thought I would add that.
