BV Meds while pregnant

My OB pescribed me Metronidazole for a vaginal bacteria infection. I believe they wouldnt give it to me if it was harmful, but ive read alot online about not taking it in your first trimester...im almost 10 weeks with my 3rd child. Im nervous  but know I ignoring the infection can/may cause miscarriage....any comments would help. Thanks

I have a Dr apt. in a week and a half. I'm going to ask the OB about checking to see if the infection is better/cleared up. We will be able to the heartbeat at the appointment. I hate in between visits to make sure the baby it's ok, since I'm not far enough along to feel the baby move. I haven't had any cramping our spotting so I think the baby is ok. On the plus side my nausea has almost completely diminished, but the smells of things lately makes me queezy...even if I just finished eating and then my husband eats the same thing and it smells so bad. Keep ya'll updated. THANKS

You're thinking of a Uti- urinary tract infection. BV is bacterial vaginosis. It causes foul smelling, green/gray discharge. It won't cause kidney problems. But you do need to get it treated. It's a pregnancy category B, and your doctor feels the benefits outweigh the risks. But if you're uncomfortable call your doctor and discuss your concerns.

BV is caused when you get an increase in bad bacteria. It causes a thick discharge and a fishy smell. You know when u have it. I'm prone to BV & have been since I was about 18 or 19. I had to take metronidazole for it early on in my pregnancy & I'm now 18 weeks and fine. Yeah I think it causes more problems if untreated. Its caused from bubble baths, biological washing powder, vaginal deodorants, douching & a few other things I can't remember.

A friend of mine said taking folic acid helps, as long as u avoid the causes aswell. I've carried on taking my folic acid & (touch wood) its never come back & I get it every few months. I'm over the moon!!:-D

The symptom for bv is if your urine is a dark yellow, if you have burning or stinging when urinating it can also cause pain when having any sexual activity. And as I said before if not treated it will spread to your other organs and can cause kidney failure. I had it plenty of times. It is very common during pregnancy. I have gad it during all three of my pregnancies.

I was prescribed that same medicine and my baby boy is still growing I was told that I would loose my little one if I didnt treat the infection because I does spread to the rest of the organs if not treated but if you ever have any concerns about it you can always talk to you ob doctor. They are there to make sure you and your baby are perfectly healthy and to continue the pregnancy without any compilations.
