Baby Swings?????

This might sound like a silly question LOL but I really am not sure..... I know babies fall asleep in there swings and nap in them, but is it safe to let Noah sleep in there through the night (he will be 6 weeks on friday).... Last night I put him in his swing at 10:30 and was up doing some things and left him in it... He was still sound asleep when I was ready to go to bed around 12:00, so i just pulled his swing in my room right next to my bed and left him in there swinging... He slept from 10:30 pm to almost 4am!!! (almost 5 1/2 hours!!) he has never slept that long before and it was GREAT, but was it safe for me to leave him swinging for that long?

my baby is now 3 months and we just started taking him out of his swing and putting him in the crib (not too bad so far) i asked my ped if it was ok for him to be in the swing all night bec he did sleep through the night in the swing...she said its best not to let it swing all night so we started turning off the swing once he slept, other than that she saw no problem with it other than them getting used to it and it might be harder to get them into the crib.
in the swing he slept from about 10pm to 645 in the crib hes been waking up at 5:10 and 5:45 so i think hes getting used to it.
Good luck!!!

it depends on the type of swing. If it's a cradle swing (like the fisher price papasan swing) it should be OK. These recline the baby pretty much all the way. If it's the older type of swing, this can be dangerous for baby and possibly cause suffocation because of compression of the airway. If the baby's head flops forward the airway can be restricted.

BUT, also consider the habit you are starting. I have seen countless posts over the years of parents who are desperate because their infant won't sleep in a crib or bassinet anymore. This may be a great temporary fix, but for some babies it becomes a huge problem later on. As soon as the baby can sit up on his/her own, and roll over well, it will not be safe regardless of the type of swing.

I don't think it's a problem...especially when they are so little, they barely move. Now I wouldn't let a baby who wiggled a lot sleep in one...they can squirm their way out of some tight spots! LOL. But a newborn who barely moves? I say get the sleep while you can and don't worry about it...

I've done the same thing, and felt guilty about it, but if that is where baby sleeps best, then so be it!   We did this at least once or twice a week with our first.  DD was colicky and I was desperate!! LoL

My daughter slept in her swing the first 3 months of her life.  It sat up a little, so it made me feel better about her sleeping in there.  =)

I dont see where that should be a problem! Just keep then baby strapped in tight and when they get to an age where they can climb out then thats not too safe, but you have a while for that! Julian hated his swing so you are lucky!

Sarah would only sleep in her swing for the first 6 weeks.....as long as they are strapped in and cant go anywhere, I dont see the harm in it.....I think because it was comfy for her...and more confining with the sides around her that she felt safe!

hey..if you are getting sleep that way..I say more power to the swing!

LoL Funny you mention this. My mom used to yell at me for doing this with my daughter, but if it was the only was i was going to get sleep then she was going in her swing. She's fine now at 19 months and I see nothing wrong with it.

I'm not a mom yet (in 4 months) but I think that as long as he's secure on the swing and he's comfy and resting then its fine.
I've seen people leave the babies sleeping in the stroller because the baby is deep asleep and its no biggie.  As long as you check on  him and it doesn't become a habit then its ok.
