Baby clothes....sizes

I am sooooo overwhelmed......My friend brought me TONS of clothes that her aunt no longer needed for her son and said I could have them... I went through four bags a couple weeks ago and then she came over again with more baby stuff and 2 MORE bags full of clothes! Well, this baby has so many clothes, atleast 10 shoes (more than me!!)

Anyway, im SO confused! Some of the 3-6 mos looks too big, some of them look small and then some of the 6-9 mos looks small and some look big, I thought I could just separate them by sizes, but I just couldn't because some of them I could hold up to each other and they were almost identical except two diff sizes......Every draw is filled to the top & I dont even think I have room for the rest......

Anyone else have this problem?

oh yes...and it only gets worse as they get older, lol. my daughter gets all the hand-me-downs from all the female cousins in the family and we just moved and I swear she has like 4 dressers full of clothes from sizes 18months (some of which still fit) to size 5T....but yeah, don't go by "size" persay. Some of the 18mos stuff my daughter has is bigger than some of her 2T stuff...and some of her newborn outfits she couldn't fit into until she was 3 months old, but some of her 3-6 month onesies fit right away..you should just separate them by how big they look and see how they fit when your baby arrives. it's confusing, isn't it? they really should make a standard sizing.

Ashelen's right - it does get worse as they get older (the clothes just get bigger and take up more room - LOL!)  There's nothing wrong with taking what you want from what you're given and donating the rest or something.  It's wonderful when people are so generous like that, but there's only so much space.....and a baby can only wear outfits so many times before he/she outgrows them, too!

As for sizing....different brands fit differently, and as you go along you'll get to know which ones fit big/small/just right for the ages/weight/height indicated on the labels.  And one thing that got me with my first child was the 3 months or 6 months, etc. vs. 0-3 months, 6-9 months, etc.  It took me awhile to figure out that 3 months means 0-3 months....I think my first son had pretty much grown out of that stuff before I realized that's what it meant....not 3 months +.  Ah well.....I'm more savvy now - my second son is getting wear out of those barely worn things ;-)

Yes, I'm as confused as you are! I've been given 3 garbage bags full of boys clothes, and my dresser is so full I asked anyone who wants to drop off girls clothes to wait until after the u/s next week when I find out the gender, as I'm already overwhelmed lol. If I have a boy, it would save everyone a trip, as there are several ladies around here that are pregnant with girls. I'm dreading going through them to try to figure out sizes! One step at a time lol..

ALL the time.  Unfortunately some manufacturers sizes run larger or smaller than the "actual" size"

One thing to keep in mind for babies coming home from the hospital outfit is that it's best to have 2 or 3 in different sizes ranging from newborn to 2 diff 0-3 mos becuase I've run into the problem of the outfit being overwhelmingly BIG on a newborn.

Once baby is here and you have an idea of what s/he fits into then you can go from there as far as sorting the rest of the clothes so the drawers won't be so overful!!  For now, just put the smallest outfits in the drawers and put the others in a clean trash bag and seal it so they will stay clean.

Omg, it was making me crazy, lol atleast it will prepare me for when he gets bigger.. :-D
They really should get the sizes straight, I ended up going through two bags at a time just because I didn't have the patience to sit there and go through it all at once.  He did get alot of doubles and extra that I'm going to donate. I will DEF bring a couple outfits with me to the hospital.....who knows if I just bring one, it'll be too big or too small.. lol
