Castor oil experience.

I am asking that you share your experience with me about inducing labor with Castor oil or others.

My midwife suggested I take it when we thought my water had broken and we needed to start labor (at 41 weeks). I took 2oz and it didn't have much effect after 2 hrs or so. We drove bumpy roads and I think that might have worked better actually haha. I didn't have any vomitting and only one instance of diahrea. It didn't have any negative effects for me and might have helped a little with starting labor. We did so many things I don't know exactly how much it helped. I took it on a Saturday morning and our son was born very healthy Sunday evening.

Now 22 wks pregnant with our second, I don't think I would take it again just because it tasted so horrible to me I can't think about it without gagging.

The herb blue cohosh is supposed to be a labor inducer or strengthener and I took one capsule of that last time too. Then my midwife said there was apparently a very slim but possible connection with coronary distress in the baby during labor so they can't officially recommend it anymore (this was recent). My son had no distress whatsoever so if we are coming up against a c-section this time I would probably try that again.

It's a proven fact that castor oil can cause baby's to have their first BM in the womb. It's dangerous, and not worth it.

Baby will only come when ready. You're only 25weeks. You don't need to even think.about inducing labour yet. Plus most women go overdue on their first babies. This is normal. Babies need to be there for as long as possible. X

Also if your body is not ready to go into labor it wont do you any good. I will be 41 weeks tomorrow and wont touch the stuff with a 20' pole... some people swear by it but they may have also taken it when their bodies were ready to go into labor... i would try other stuff first befor that.

It can make the baby have their first bowel movement(meconium) while still inside. My sister inlaw used it she got extremely dehydrated becauae it made her violently ill.(gave her diahrea and vomiting) Her baby also passed her first bowel movement in the womb and inhaled it.  Her baby had to be in the Nicu for 24 days and almost died because of it.  Now her daughter has permanent brain damage due to the lack of oxygen due to inhaling meconium. Its very dangerous to use unless under direct supervision of a dr.
