Cervix funneling at 24 weeks?

So I had an appt today to check to see if the BV I had a month ago went away. Well it hasn't. :( so now I have to try this cream. Ugh!!! Also they checked my cervix and last time I was completely closed and not soft or funneling at all. There were no concerns.  BTW what exactly is funneling??
So this time she said my cervix feels like it's shortening or funneling and I'm open on the outside now but not dilated yet but soft. She is very concerned things are starting to happen earlier this time around. I have an ultrasound next wed to check the length and compare it to the last ultrasound. So no more sex and I have to take it easy now. No bedrest just yet. :( now I'm stressed again. The midwife said I could have a progesterone issue and the BV or some other bacteria can cause this. I was offered progesterone shots starting at 16w-36w. Now I am wondering if I made a mistake in not taking that offer. Anyway , just hoping things don't progress like last time.

Thanks Amber. It's a little scary considering I didn't quite make it full term with my second (36w3d) and that my cervix is changing a month earlier than it did with my last. =/ But, I am going to do everything I can to try to make it to 37 weeks this time! My husband seems to think it could have something to do with the full moon and the fact that the moon is closer to the earth than it has been in 20 years. Ya never know! The weird thing is, I've been taking it so easy this pregnancy because I was so sick for the longest time and pretty much just laid down for most of this pregnancy. I know it's nothing I did, but I can't stop wondering what causes it! I have a feeling it has something to do with the infections I keep getting because my midwife said if you can't get an infection to clear, your body's natural response is to get the baby out because it's not safe. Just hoping my cervix hasn't dilated yet. I have been getting pressure with my BH now and my cervix feels so weird when it happens.

I'm sorry you are going through this, sending prayers. I had funneling with Carter early on like that; I made it full term, I pray this happens for you as well. Good luck, hugs!

I will ask Nicole. I have so many questions this time around and just want baby to be healthy and be born safely.  Ironically, I've been getting a lot of contrax tonight. :( I don't know if it's because I'm so stressed or if I am finally just paying attention to them. Ugh it's frustrating. I will def ask about it though. More than ever I just want it to be June. My goal for now is to make it to June 1st. If I can hold out till then I know my lil girl could be okay with little intervention.

chantal what about the home medication pump that I used last time are you a good canidate for something like that? I was able to be on part time bed rest up until 33 weeks. I really think it helped. It gave me that anti contraction medication every 15 minutes.

Thx jtaylor. I hope we both can make it full term without any issues! I guess I will know more at my appt on wed. Did not hear back from the OB tonight so I guess that means I will hear from her on Monday now. It's definitely scary. =/

Well I am in a similar situation right now. I had my fetal survey done on 3/16 and even though the baby is fine I am having issues with cerival funneling and shortening this has never been an issue before and bein only twenty weeks is scarring the crap out of me I am on complete bedrest and shots to prevent any cramping or contractions.  I will keep my fingers crossed for you hopefully everything goes well for both of us

Thanks. I am waiting for my OB to call me back because I would like to know about the progesterone shots to see what her opinion on it is. We will see! Just hoping it isn't too bad on Wednesday. I know the more babies you have the sooner things start happening but when I was on bedrest with my second, as soon as I was done he was born 3 days later so it scares me and I am goin to just stay on bedrest. This is the earliest things have started just hoping the contractions won't get bad. The funny thing is my blood pressure is perfect! It was 116/68. So that's a good thing. I must just have a stubborn cervix. My midwife wants me to relax, take it easy and drink lots of water.

I have to have my cervical length checked due to removal of cervical cancer twice in the past. They can insert a cerclage to keep the cervix closed if it is shortening, you would most likely be placed on bedrest as well.

I am so sorry to hear these sweetie... I hope everything turns out okay next week!  As for the progesterone shots I would double check the price for the specific one you'd be getting because the ones I got were only $65 for 4 weeks worth, and that was the cost not being covered by my insurance.  No matter what happens you are in my thoughts and prayers!  I hope they figure out something to keep this little one in there a lot longer!!

Thx ladies. I am basically going to be on modified bedrest. I dont wat to risk it ya know? BV=bacterial vaginosis I had this last pregnancy and it wouldn't go away.
I told my husband about the shots because I heard how much they are charging now (I am outraged by it!!) he said if I can still take them at this point and if they think it will help he doesn't care how much it costs because he just wants a healthy baby this time. And I agree, I would do anything to make sure my kids are healthy. *sigh*

So far contrax have been easy probably not getting more than 4 a day but yesterday I had one that was pretty strong with pressure so I dunno.
Last time I went on bedrest at 27 weeks.

Tabby- I think that test only tells you if your going to deliver in the next week or so. I've also never heard of funneling. Those progesterone shots just went from $10 each to $1500 each so I wouldn't stress too much about not taking them.

Are you having contractions? When did you go on bedrest last time?

funny I have 4 kids but I cant give you a definition for funneling:( There is a test they can do to see if your at a high risk of preterm labor but I guess that would be pointless since we all know you are. Take it easy (as much as you can). I will keep my fingers crossed for you that your wednsday appointment goes well:) How are your BH???  Im not sure what BV is but if its an infection that can lead to preterm labor, or so Ive heard:( Good luck Chantal!!!

I'm sorry Chantal.  I kind of had a feeling something like this would happen.  Try to take it super easy.  I know it isn't easy but that is what I would do.

You are in my thoughts and prayers always.
