Conception/Sex Question--When are you "Pregnant"

Hi All:)
Okay, this may sound really idiotic, but I honestly don't know the answers and I haven't found a clear cut answer online. I'm trying to find out when I conceived and it's a giant mystery. Please help!!!

--I have a very solid 28 day cycle. I'm hardly ever am a day off that.
--My last period began on Sept. 24. I have no idea when I ovulate.
--I got my first positive home test on Oct. 25.
--Blood test taken Oct. 27 showed HCG levels that my doc said put me at about "2 weeks Pregnant"

I was nervous to ask what that meant because I didn't want to look dumb. But does it mean 2 weeks since I had the sex that got me pregnant? Or two weeks since implantation? Or two weeks since WHAT??? I heard it can take a few days even for the sperm and egg to connect. So, not sure what she's counting from???

And if there is no answer to this right now, then can you please tell me when they can get more accurate date tracking? Is it only with an ultrasound?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!!!!!!!

Yeah I agree with Joy, my cycles last 28 days also and my last menstrual cycle was on the 28th of September and I am now 4 weeks and 6 days well basically 5 weeks tomorrow so you are probably around 5 weeks 4 days now. Congrats on your pregnancy!

By the way, your HCG levels are not accurate in dating pregnancy at all! Everyone's levels vary. At 5 weeks one person could have a level of 12 and another person could have a level of 500. So since you're really regular, go based on your last menstrual period.

The reason being that you always ovulate 14 days before your next period.

Here it is in the most simple terms because I know it's confusing. There are two ways to date a pregnancy:

Gestational- which is the baby's ACTUAL age (in your case your doctor said 2 weeks)
___________- (forgot what the other one is called) but it's the most common and is based on your last period.

Pregnancy is actually 38 weeks but because doctors commonly date your pregnancy from your last period (two weeks before you actually conceive) they tack on the extra 2 weeks.

I just got a positive test and I go by the common dating (from last period) and I'm 4 weeks and 3 days, due July 9th.

I have an awesome website that has the most amazingly accurate due date and pregnancy calculator. Based on it's calculations this is your information: You are due July 2, 2009 and are now 5 weeks, 2 days pregnant.

If you want the link to that website, please send me a message. I'm not allowed to put it on the forum.

Thank you for your comments!!!!!  I really appreciate it! It's all still a bit fuzzy, but hopefully I can be patient enough for the ultrasound. If you or anyone else has any more insight, I would appreciate it!!!!!!
Thanks:)

Since you have a normal cycle, you probably ovulated right around October 8th, it's supposed to be 14 days from the start of your last period. Implantation can take up to 2 or 3 days after that, I tried to look it up in my pregnancy books to make sure, but couldn't find anything. Keeping track of your weeks is very confusing because how old the baby actually is, is from conception (implantation), but Drs. usually talk "gestational age" which means the time that's gone by since your last period, which adds to weeks. BUT technically you are 5 weeks pregnant, because you always go back to your last period.  Your Dr. should tell you that though just to make sure.  One of my pregnancy books "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" estimates that your due date will be July 1st.  Once you have your first Dr.'s appt., your Dr. will give you your due date, look it up on your calender and see what day of the week it falls on. My Dr. told me that is your "changing day", that's what we call it anyway, it's the day that you change from 5 weeks to 6 weeks, etc. I always thought it was the day that my last period started on, but he told me that it's the due date day of the week.  So that will save some confusion too.

Ultrasound is the most accurate because they'll measure the sac and the baby, but even that can be off by like a week because I KNOW when I got pregnant and when I went for my early ultrasound it showed that I was a week behind where I thought I should be. I am now 19 weeks and had an u/s last week which showed that I was back to where I though I was in the first place. So you can't count on that 100%.

As far as your other question, I am not def. that a home pregnancy test would pick it up, possibly, I'm trying to remember with my past pregnancies, I'm thinking maybe, it would be a really light line though, a bloodtest would definately show positive though.

Good Luck!!!
