Well, the good news is that you are on the right track. I was on Depo for 8 years. It took me 20 months to concieve. As of today, I am 5 weeks pregnant.
Some common misconceptions:
My period is normal - I must be ovulating. -Not true. Start charting your basal body temperature. You may also try www.fertilityfriend.com you just put in your temperature and it will do the rest. Very easy, even has a great charting tutorial. Remember you need a BBT thermometer and you must take your temp at the same time every morning and in the same way. I took my temps vaginally since they were more accurate that way.
It can take 18 months or longer to return to pre-Depo ability to concieve. Give your body time.
This may be a very long road or it could be as short as 3 months. It doesn't matter if you took the shot just once or for a few years as you and I did. Just relax and start charting, as soon as you see that you are ovulating again, do as much as you can to "baby dance" before, day of, and day after ovulation. Be sure to lay down for 5-10 minutes after the baby juices have been deposited and just relax.
