Early Ultrasound Question

I went Friday to ensure I was not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy (at 5 weeks and 5 days). I had a transvag U/S that showed just an empty sac (no yolk or baby). The sac was measuring at 4 weeks and 2 days. I know I should be 5 weeks and 5 days pg because I was charting. I have no bleeding whatsoever, and the nurse was barely answering my questions. Is it normal to be measuring so differently than where you are supposed to? Is it even possible that I am still pregnant with a baby and not a blighted ovum? The Dr's office didn't do any blood work, they just told me to come back in a month. I am so distraught. I keep reading where people see the yolk sac and/or fetal pole at 5 w 6 days. Any advice or experiences would be helpful.

Finally an update!!!! Went last night for an U/S at 9w4d.  I saw the baby, the hb and everything was measuring right on track.  Thank you for the well wishes, and I hope people find this thread in the future to show them there is hope!

I cannot believe how many times someone says, "Prepare for miscarriage" and a woman goes on to have a healthy baby!!! Ultrasound technicians, by law, are not even allowed to discuss the results of the ultrasound with you. Only a doctor can do that.

crombie, getting the morning sickness can be a very reassuring sign. It means the hormones levels are raising!

Yeah keep me up to date.  I am sad that I dont go until the 28th.  At least your dr is keeping a close eye on things.  I just developed the worst morning sickness this week, have you experienced anything?

Hi I wanted to give you a update. I had went today for a Transvagional U/S they think they had saw what looks like a Gestional Sac but was certain, she did a exam and my cervis is closed and ovaries looks great. Still confused she said I wasnt going to have a healthy pregnancy. U/S tech said Sac is in my Uterus and numbers arent matching up meaning I am only a few weeks, RE thinks I am 5-weeks along. She did another HCG test and was 1076 so its increasing but not doubling persay like they had hoped. My husband wants me to switch as they are making me comeback thursday for another U/s which unsure what they can see in  2-days and another Hsg. She is giving me my options on what I can do and I am not taking any of them they cant give me a straight answer as if its in my tubes but you can blainly see the sac in my uterus just no yolk sac.. They seem concerned but I am not I am going to just play i by ear and until my body tells me otherwise I will act on it. For now I will see what happens. I will keep you updated on thursday. Also every 2-days since Sunday she has been esting my HCg levels and they are increasing but not doubling

They didnt do an HCG test.  Knowing that it should be done, I just switched drs today.  I go to my new Drs 8/24 sorry I couldnt be of much help.  Let me know what happens.  Its good that you have no pain.  I was having sharp shooting pains - no bleeding.  They didnt tell me much (which is why I switchd drs) good luck!

Can I ask you something. What have been your HCg levels? I found out I was Pregnant 7/24 which they were 140-Thursday Monday: 7/28 they were 540 Friday-Aug 1 they were 660 and Sunday-Aug 3 798. They are concerned as my levels according to them arent doubling.. I am soo worried can be a Ectopic, but I feel no pain or bleeding. I go for my US tomorrow and should only measure maybe 3-weeks.. What did  they  tell you when you went in.. I have been sooo scared since friday..

If you are only 4 weeks 2 days you definitely wouldn't see a baby in there yet. I had an Transvaginal U/S at 5 weeks 1 day and all we saw was the sac and the beginning of a yolk sac. I went back at 6 weeks and my baby was there with a heart beat of 140 bpm! So 4 weeks is definitely too early. Its possible you Ovulated later than you thought. I was sure I was a week ahead of what I am..but it turns out I Ovulated a week later than I should have. So take it easy and go back for another U/S in a couple weeks and you'll see your lil baby!

Well you also need to take into consideration that implantation can take 7-12 days after ovulation. There are many factors while you're measuring a little behind, so don't worry about that!

And being able to see a sac right now is FANTASTIC! It's still too early to see anything else.

you may have ovulated a few days later than you thought, unfortunately TTC and charting is not an exact science.  you need to get a sooner appointment before a month though.  schedule an ultrasound for a week or 2.  by 6 weeks you should see more.

sometimes they don't show up till later....and yes, even though you charted, i think there's still a poss. that you ovulated later....if they told you to wait a month, then it appears they see nothing wrong, and around 8-9 weeks is when most dr's look for the heart, and you actually see a "butterball" that resembles a baby..i had my 1st u/s at 12 weeks, so i actually saw the whole baby ;) other women here had u/s @ 8 weeks, and saw a baby, they'd be better to help you there ;)

my LMP shows i'd be 34 weeks, but baby is only measuring 28....however, he's more than healthy, and i think i'll be having a very large baby lol.....so my dr thinks i O'd w/o a period.....
