Ectopic...

How can you tell the differnce between ectopic and miscarrige?  I am 6 weeks exactly today and I went to the ER yesterday they did an u/s and saw nothing ....anywhere.  My beta/hcg levels are at 1700.  My periods are also usually 33 days or 35 days apart...could this make it so they cannot see anything yet?  Anyway they said that it could be possible ectopic or miscarrige...how do I know?  I have had slight pain on my left side.

Thanks in advance!

I also want to let people know that you do not always have severe pain with an ectopic pregnancy. I was 6 weeks when my dr. treated me for ectopic. I had no symptoms of it, just normal pregnancy symptoms. They happened to be watching me close because I had a tubal reversal, which increases the chances of EP. My HCG was not high enough and not doubling and I had low progesterone. They decided to do ultrasound because of those reasons, I would have never known otherwise. I don't understand why some dr. won't even see people until they are already 8 - 12 weeks along. I think that can be dangerous.

i know this is not quite the same, but i had my tubes tied 6 years ago. since then ive had my AF on point every month just like when i was on the pill.. my last cycle was on march 16th, i had very light spotting that only lasted a day on April 2nd. i have not had AF since. i have swollen tender breasts, nausea, fatique, heartburn, etc etc. ive been told that it may be ectopic but from what i just read, calculating my dates, i would be 6 weeks along if it was, so then i would be in some kind of pain right? im not. also ive had 3 neg tests so far. going to take another in the AM with FMU. haven't taken one in 2 to 3 weeks with FMU so... worth a try. i keep getting told to go to the Dr. but until i get paid, which is on the 15th of may, i wont have any extra money to spare. im just curious if there could e other reasons why im going through this. others keep telling me its impossible to get prego with your tubes tied, im just going nuts here getting criticized for asking these questions, am i being legit in my concerns for being 2 weeks late for my Af or what? if it was not for the other symptoms combined with the lateness, i wouldn't worry, but this has got me upset. usually when i get the neg result ( back when i could be prego) i would start within  24 to 48 hours. that is not happening this time. someone please talk to me without telling me im being stupid? im 33 years old with 3 kids already, im not a child, i just need answers. thanks in advance.

When I found out I was having an ectopic I was 6.5 weeks.  The tubal was on my RT side and I had NO right side pain AT ALL.  I only had cramping (which I had with this pregnancy and I am now 33.5 weeks, so I guess that was normal).  I also has slight off/on shoulder pain.  That was it.  No bad pain on my RT side or anything.  It was a complete shock to find out.  An ectopic can normally be seen on u/s because they are able to see the tissue still growing somewhere other than the uterus.  GOOD LUCK!!

my doctor told me that sometimes women do not experince the extreme pain of eptopic til 8 weeks, and it is usually on one side, depending on which tube it is in.

Did they schedule you for another ultrasound to see if you are maybe not as far along as you think?

Hi jen1983. I hope you got looked after ok and have now fully recovered. I'm really just leaving this note for anyone - like me, who is looking for more information: Check out the FAQs on this brilliant website: http://www.ectopic.org.uk/medical_information/faq.htm. If you are in the UK and need advice then call the helpline, the nurse I spoke to was absolutely brilliant.
Of course this is all after the fact for me! I had an ectopic (and an operation 3 weeks agao) for which I had very similar symptoms - a slight pain in my lower left abdomen: a bit like a pulled muscle and a bad shoulder, which I dismissed because I often have shoulder and neck pain - this was hardly enough reason to contact the doc but I'd had what I thought was a misscarriage 2 weeks earlier and it was just enough to worry my boyfriend into nagging me into calling. However I was scanned 3 times and nothing showed up. I was 8 weeks pregnant at that point. A blood test came up positive 3 days later and a 2 hour operation laparotomy (they tried to do it via key-hole but couldn't) removed the tube which was about to burst. Now I know more about it I understand that it is not unusual to have no symptoms at all. So please get it checked out if you are at all worried. That's what the medical profession are there for!

is the pain always there? or does it come and go throughout the day? I have pain in my back and in my front both on the left side. the pain comes at the same time but they come and go throughout the day. i'm not doubling over from the pain but it is definately annoying.. it keeps waking me up at night. i'm almost 7 weeks also..

I was close to 6 weeks when i was given an ultrasound and told that they could see nothing in the u/s and suspected an ectopic pregnancy. However I was not in pain at all and experienced no bleeding. A couple days later I started having pain in my right side than escalated to my lower right back. Immediated I went to the ER, but this time to a different hospital where they told me I had an inflamed kidney and that was causing friction against my uterus. It turned out that my baby is fine and was able to see the heartbeat. I doubt it's an ectopic pregnancy especially at 6 weeks and you are only experiencing slight pain. From my knowledge you would be in excruciating pain especially at 6 weeks. I wish you the best of luck. But be sure to check with your doctor as well!!

you can know eptopic through ultrasound on falobian if there was wider than usual it might be eptopic and don't forget usually in eptopic you'll have too much pain to bear it any way repeat your
B-HCG and don't forget to do it again in 48 hours to 72
wish you good healthy pregnancy

Hiya,i suffered an eptopic in nov 06,as alaysha said you would be extreme pain on your side, especially if you were 6 weeks along.i mc the eptopic at almost 4 weeks, alot of pain,if they thought it was eptopic they would have checked this during your scan,as they would be able to see it...there could be many reasons for not seeing the baby yet,you may have concieved slightly later than you thought...But do question your doc,for moe tests,to be safe, best of luck.

Ectopic is when its in your tube its usually associated with EXTREME pain on your side. Miscarriage is when the baby isn't growing as it is supposed to and ends up going being expelled from your body.
