Eye Drops During 2nd Trimester

Is it safe to use eye drops during the second trimster?  My wife was dealing with a really bad eye irritation today, so we went to the store and bought some eye drops.  We didn't think they could be harmful, but (after she had already used them) we noticed that the label said to consult your doctor before using them if you are pregnant.

She used Visine Totality Multi-Symptom Relief.  The active ingredients are Glycerin, Hypromellose, Polyethylene glycol 400, Tetrahydrozoline HCI, and Zinc sulfate.  Are any of these ingredients known to cause any issues or possible birth defects if used in very small quantities?  Thanks a ton for helping us to find the answer to this question!

Thanks for the advice.  We actually have an appointment with her doctor on Monday.  I suppose it can probably wait until then.  I was mostly just hoping for some piece of mind for the two of us in the mean time.  Thanks again!

Or you could phone the nurses line or ask the pharmacist if you can't wait. In the mean time she can use saline solution to give her some relief.

It's labeled as a Class C drug, and it's not known if it causes problems. Almost every medicine will have the message to consult a doctor before use just to cover themselves. I doubt one time use is anything to worry about, but you can speak to her doctor at the next appointment and ask them if you're concerned.
