For moms to be who don't want to BF

So I thought I was the only one first of all but I really don't want to breastfeed like at all but I feel like quite a horrible person for not wanting to do it so I guess my question is why don't you want to breastfeed?

With my daughter who was born at 27 weeks gestation I had no choice but to formula feed I did want to bf but the nicu refused to let me because of my antidepressant even though it is pregnancy safe she is much healthier than my son who I bf for three months he had sever chronic ear infections and gotten sick way more and when we switched him to formula we discovered he is lactose intolerant which I am wondering if it is because I am allergic to milk and have to drink soy milk I am planning on bfing this time again for my own choice but I also pump but I agree it is a personal choice and no one should be judged for their choice I did have an awful time bfing my son because of his medical issues and it was very stressful on me but I am going to try it again but if for some reason it doesn't work out I won't hesitate to formula feed good luck to all the mommies

I dnt see how its weird when women have been doing it for centuries before formula was made and women in 3rd world countries have no choice but too. Honestly I tried it for 2 months with my 1st and stress got to me and my milk supply was short and we had to do formula after that was when my son started have digestion issues vomiting diarrhea and allergic reactions we tried at least 3 different formulas until we went to a specialist and they had to give him some milk that wasnt in stores only at pharmacies he didn't tolerate it and barley gained weight until he was 1 in a half. I want to give BF a try again because im afraid of that happening again plus he rarely got sick and never had a ear effection. I just hope no one goes through that it was hard...

I don't want to breastfeed simply because, for the lack of a better phrase I guess, I just think it'll be & feel awkward for me! that's just for me.. I just don't want my baby boy sucking on my nipples.. my daddy was breastfed (along with his 9 brothers & sisters), but my mama & her siblings were not. so, I understand the benefits of both, and I've chosen my route.. it's just not for me.

Breastfeeding is so much better. As long as you eat good, breast milk won't give baby gas or spit up. It's actually not "weird" to breast feed your child, it's a great feeling.

I choose to breastfeed and am currently on my 8th week of feeding my baby I like it because I don't have to prepare bottles or sterilise anything I have pumped 3 bottles since starting feeding so my boyfriend could have a go but it takes forever I completely understand why people want to formula feed it gives them a break and people saying breastfeeding gives you more of a bond I used to say that until I saw my boyfriend feed my baby they both looked into each others eyes the whole time it definitely brought them closer together

I will be breastfeeding but supplementing with formula... In my experience babies sleep for longer periods of time with formula because it keeps them fuller longer so I will be using formula at night for that reason and so my hubby can do some of the work too

I'm not breastfeeding cause well to be honest I don't want someone sucking on me 24/7 I completely understand women who do a lot of my friends do but it's just not for me I tried w my 1st and she latched of  for like 20 seconds and it was weird so I just pumped for her and when she ended up with a protein allergies I just quit and this time I want my body back faster so my diet pills will be in my system the day I come home!  And i know that I don't want her to have that!

Hi, ladies,

The OP was pretty clear about her question: "... why don't you want to breastfeed?"

She did not ask "Which is better?", "Which option do you think is the most horrible?", nor "What do you think of my decision?"  She did not ask how you feel about mercury, GMOs, or tuna either.

To help this discussion stay on the topic set by the OP, I've removed a few posts in this thread.  Any future off-topic or disrespectful posts will be removed without warning.

This has the potential to be an interesting topic, because there are so many factors that go into this decision, and each of them is valid to the person making the decision.  Let's keep it on topic. Thanks!

Claire

Every mom is gonna do what they want as long as baby is healthy and growing they're doing a good job but from someone that has bf and had to supplement (for a short time 10 days while on antibiotics) and was a ftm and had to work long hrs and am very modest (never ever ever felt comfortable having my boob out in front of ppl) I really wish all moms would give it a try. There are a couple benefits to formula but sooooooooo many to bfing and I wouldnt even say bonding is one. Any ladies thinking about it try it cuz u cant go back on ur decision after u dry up.

Hey. We support your decision.  Now you support ours. Its a 2way street and its getting annoying having the facts shoved down our throats. Congrats. You will have genius healthy babies just because you breastfed.  But my 2 formula fed babies are smart and amazing too.

If you have sensitive nipple or wabt the daddy to be involved to pumping is also a good alternative

The proof is in the pudding so to speak... they have research thousands of babys and followrd them from birth to adulthood formula is not as good as breastmilk and the babies stomach cant break everything down from formal.... also if a baby is sick so the grems in the babies mouth can tell the mothers breast what t bodies to add to the milk to help fight whatever sickness the baby has formal cant do that

For all the women saying formula is just as good as breast milk, that is NOT true! It is an equivilient to giving your child sustanance or sustaining life but it is not just as good. There are things that your body makes that can not be duplicated, that's why they say breast milk is best. Of course if you choose to feed formula that is your choice and I do not judge you and no one else should judge you for that either. To each is own of course. I just don't like the fact people say it's just as good because it is not! It's like saying processed food is the same as all natural food. It's not! Of course you can live off of it and grow and be most likely healthy but it's not the same. That is all I want to share. I also want to state before anyone gets butt hurt that I too formula fed my baby, not because of choice but because I could not produce enough breast milk after 6 months and my daughter is a beautiful smart 14 year old now. So nothing is wrong with formula or choosing to feed that way.

I will be breast feeding but when I supplement (cuz I know I will) it will be with Gerber Goodstart for supplementing. Gerber is one of the easiest for baby to tolerate and its also on the cheaper side compared to the other big names.

Ohhh & before some one go there.. i didnt say not one bad thing about formula fed babies. Its just that DHA that WE MAKE is a chemical in formula instead of it being naturally made by baby's mom. Enfamil is a better choice to me if youre formula feeding. But, EVERYTHING IS GOOD AS LONG AS BABY IS BEING FED AND IS HEALTHY AND GAINING WEIGHT. im all for it these are just me & my boyfriend's preferences.

Okay, im going to breast feed and formula feed. The formula i will be using is Enfamil. Ill breast feed/pump while im on maternity leave at work which will be about 6weeks or more and start baby on Enfamil when its time for mommy to go back to work. Nothing is hard about it & its no weird. Im willing to give my baby the nutrients and antibodies she will need to make sure she doesnt have a lot of sickness allergies, ear infections. Just doing it for a couple weeks is fine.. not all moms do it forever. But, yes everyone is entitled to their opinion i just dont feel like you should short change your baby.. when you know theres something so simple you could do to prevent any asthma or whatever. & plus moms that say they dont have money or a lot of support should definitely consider breast feeding.. ITS FREE. Enfamil is $25 dollars a can. Im just saying.. some peoples reasons are a little selfish. & im not pointing anyone out. But, if youre offended then the shoe fits. WEAR IT!! p.s. moms who breast feed go back to their pre baby bodies or smaller .. after baby is born. Thats a plus for me. Good luck ladies!!!

I would love to breast feed but I am not going to because of comfort issues. I'm not one to like my nipples even to be touched let alone sucked on, haha.

I didnt BF my daughter and she is a very healthy 4yr old, and she talks like a proper little princess lol. Im not gonna breastfeed my twins either. I just dont see the point , formula gives your child the same nutrition. Alot of mothers do it because its a bonding time with mommy and baby. Plus im a working mommy and i dont want to have to pump my boobs lol

Closer to I may change my mind and  try and breastfeed but as of right now I have no desire to not that I think it's weird that's what they were made for I don't know to @mrsonens I honestly think it's the woman's choice yes it is healthier they say but it's the women's body and I don't think that men should be able to tell a girl what to do and what not to do with her body if she doesn't want to she doesn't have to totally her choice

Formula is just as good as breast milk, yes it doesn't have the antibodies but all the necessary vitamins and nutrients are there, plus some! Millions of moms formula feed and have perfectly healthy babies. Its merely a preference.
