Gestational Diabetes

Hello ladies. I'm 28 weeks pregnant and was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Hearing the news devastated me. This is my first pregnancy and I know it may sound cliché but I prayed for a normal pregnancy. So now I'm worried because I know if the diabetes gets out of control it can lead to insulin shots and can effect the baby. Have any of you ladies gone through this? Or are currently dealing with this? How are you copping? And what did you have to change in order to maintain your diabetes at a normal level? Any encouragement or advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi.... don't you worry... stress is bad for diabetes. U can easily control it with diet and walking. I'm from India...... here I was given a 75gm glucose drink and after 2 hrs of having the drink my blood was tested. Results were 196 which is pretty high. I was given 1 weeks tym to control blood sugar with diet......
I stopped eating high sugar fruits, pastries, ice creams, sweets, etc.
I eat whole wheat along with proteins, milk, fruits like orange and other citrus fruits. No juices. Lots of vegetables. No potato, beetroots, carrots. I eat lil rice for lunch.
I walk after every large meal for 20 mins. I don't do exercise but I do kitchen and cleaning work at home.
Trust me after a week my sugar level was normal. I dont have to take any medicine. Thanks to diet and walking. U can do it. N no stress at all.............

I had gestational diabetes when I was preggers with my son who is now 2. I had to completely change my diet as well as take this medicine to control my blood sugar. My doctor ended up taking my son out 1 week and some days early than his due date because my placenta was failing to feed the baby. But I believe you will be fine as long as you be obedient to the doctor's advice. If I could make it through then you can too!

Iv put on two stone so far so that hasn't helped me but I'm trying my bestest to cut out sugar but I love a treat! I drunk a lot a sugary drinks before and didn't realise how bad they were even a small bottle of ribeana is 46% of your daily sugar allowance!

Yes thank you. I think I'm going to have to cut out pasta which is my favorite. What really shocked me is that I gave up soda, coffee, and unhealthy foods when I found out I was pregnant. I began eating a lot more whole wheat foods. So I think my family genetics has a ton to do with it.
