Getting induced on the 12th with Pitocin- how long might it take?

Well I will be getting induced with Pitocin on Tuesday October 12th. I will be 39weeks but my clinic believes I am over 39weeks. I have been having a few problems and now I am so depressed that I have to force myself to eat, so they figured it is just best to get her out of me. I am 3cm dilated, 80% effaced. How long would you say it will take for my baby to be born? Just an estimate. And if you have been induced, did Pitocin work? How was the outcome and situation of the induction? NO horror stories please.

I just want to say....don't be afraid of your induction. My induction with my son was easy and fast and I had so much fun. that's right, fun! it was a blast. My epidural didn't work so that was a bit of a stinker but I didn't have to push for long at all...so not all inductions are horror stories :).

Hopefully my labor will not be very long. I WANTED to be induced, because of how things with this pregnancy have been, so it's not like I don't have a choice. But I do think she is better off in the world than in my tummy, otherwise- I would stick it out until I have over due. They keep telling me I won't even last til the 12th..but the only "labor" signs I have had were the dilation and loss of mucus plug..so I am pretty sure she doesn't want to come on her own :(

I was scared too of a c section cuz you hear of failed inductions. I was induced at 36 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. I have to say that this labor was very quick compared to my last 2, who were natural with no induction.

This labor lasted about 12 hours.  My other kids' were 20 and 18 hours. I started dialating but was dialating slowly, even after they broke my water. 3-4 hours had passed without me dialating any further beyond 4cm. I started getting worried. But they gave me something to move labor along. I don't know what it was, but it sure worked. 3 hours later, I was ready to push. My son will be 3 mos old on the 14th.

This may help ease your mind :). I had a lot of fun both times I went into labor...but the 2nd time was ridiculously fun, lol.

I do have to say that the more restrictive you are about how long your labor can last, the higher are the risks for a c-section. For instance if you're in labor 6-8 hours and start saying "this is too long it needs to be over now" but they can't get you to naturally speed up....they may say that you have no option but a c-section...this is not TRUE and you can refuse a c-section unless you or the baby's life are in serious danger, so keep that in mind.

You are the captain of your ship! the pitocin usually results in shorter, more intense labors.

I am trying to do this without getting the epidural. But I will be given nubain to help with the strength of the contractions since the pitocin makes contractions worse. I am very nervous as I do not want to be in labor for very long and I am afraid if they dont first break my water and see if labor starts on its own, that I will need a c section :/ I would definitely be interested in seeing the play by play of your induction.

Right...mama's completely right it can depend entirely. I was NOT induced with my first except for my waters being broken and it only took about 4 hours for me from 1cm-delivery...with my son I had a pitocin drip and he was born in much less.

I actually posted AS I was being induced if you're interested in reading about the induction play-by-play and seeing what it might be like....let me know I"ll link the post to you.

but it really depends on how ready your body is as well. 3cm and 80% you could either go in a few hours or take 12-24 hours...the thing that really will decide it is if they decide to break your water. generally you'll be delivered in 24 hours if they do that to avoid risk of infection, and that means they might ramp up the pitocin to speed things along.

Well, I think it really depends on the person, if you have been in labor before, and how dilated, eff. one is.

I have been induced with all 3 of my boys, for health reasons. My 1st and 2nd were both between 9 hours long( i was 1-2cm).Once they broken my water, things did go a bit faster. My 3rd was only 4 hours long(i was 3cm)! My water did brake on its own, and things were VERY fast! I didnt even get my Epi in time, We all thought we were going to be there a while but no!

Every pregnancy and Every person is different!!
