Glucose test question

hey girls! i have my glucose test next week i really do not want to fail i hear the 3 hr test is horrible. most people i know failed on there first try. Do you girls have any tips on preparing for this test?

I was actually really scared too but I really didn't even have a problem! At my hospital they offered me 3 different flavors of the glucola and it was cold too so it just tasted like sugary punch to me (i picked the fruit punch flavor)

You have 3 minutes to drink like a small styrofoam cupfull and then you wait an hour and they draw your blood.. I passed mine fine and the worst part for me was that after I drank my glucola the baby went NUTS! he was moving around SO much you could see the flowers on my shirt moving lol.. I wouldn't worry about it, its really not that bad.. The only thing my nurse told me was not to eat anything really sweet before I came in because that can sometimes mess with your levels and cause you to fail, but they also said eat how your normally would.. I went to "huhot" (a mongolian restauraunt) before mine and ate stirfry and drank rootbeer and I did fine.. Dont worry its really not that bad.

I was totally paranoid I wouldn't pass, but I did. Just follow the instructions you got w/the drink to a T - down to the minute. Thats the best way to avoid having to take the test again. If you're unclear about the instructions, call your clinic's main desk and they'll walk you through it. Make sure you don't eat ANY sugar the day of (I had plain oatmeal for breakfast before my appt. Gross, but if I don't eat something in the morning I get nauseated)... and wait the required time to take your drink afterward. Note the EXACT time you drink it, and make sure you drink it within 5 minutes. I remember the first few chugs thinking, hey this isn't bad! It tastes just like flat orange soda. Then about halfway through I was like omg, this is gross. lol! It made me a bit queasy because thats a LOT of sugar. Isuggest plugging your nose so you can't taste it and just chugging it while you think of something else. The funniest thing was how baby reacted - he went NUTS in my belly doing all kinds of kicks and rolls. Sugar high!! lol... anyway, the test isn't as bad as it's made out to be. There are worse things! You'll be glad to have it done with. Good luck!

I just had mine, i was worried i would fail too.  I havent heard back from them yet so im hoping i passed!  Its nasty.  At first it isnt so bad, it just tastes like really sugary juice but the after taste is killer, and that really makes you want to throw up.  But just chug the juice down and you'll be fine!

Really? I only know one person that has failed. It is a gross test, especially if you are nauseaus at all. But there's really nothing you can do to up your chances of passing it. Good luck! Oh, I think you can chew sugarfree gum inbetween too, which I'd really recommend cause it tastes pretty gross (some people don't mind it), and like I say, if you're nauseaus it definately won't go over well!
