HCG Levels

My HCG level was 999 on Wednesday.  I found out I was pregnant then.  My last period was July 2, I found out I was pregnant on Aug  6th, I have around a 35 day cycle.  On Friday, 2 days level, my level was 1330.  My doctor is very concerned as says textbook terms--I will miscarry--these numbers are normal for women who will miscarry.  He is retesting again on Monday--has anyone had the experience?

I'm so glad everything's going well, Munch!  I just got back from a week long hiatus without internet and checked back in this post!  Good news rocks!!

I hope everything goes well ...Sept 25th will be here sooner than you think (although I'm sure it doesn't seem like it now!).

As for relaxing ...I know how hard it can be ...especially when you're worried about the baby!  Yoga is definitely a great way to exercise *and* relax ...so you're on the right track there!  Maybe try a nice relaxing day doing something you love (if you're up for it ...has m/s set in yet? =-D).

HI ALL,
Hope all is well with everyone.  Sunday will be 8 weeks.  But, I can't help to always be nervous--I know that I have to sit back and enjoy---but I worry about everything--plus, I am 39 years old--that is concerning as well--I am taking a yoga class --I need to try to learn to relax--any advise?

Hello,
Well, did the ultrasound, I am six weeks 1 day, they found a yolk sac and a healthy heartbeat!  The doctor said all seems OK and it progressed into a health pregnancy.  I go back in late Setember for another sonogram--Thank you all for sharing your experiences and advise!  I will keep you all posted along the way.

Good Luck to everyone!

YES!!  My numbers only went up 20% in two days and I had a healthy baby boy.  The doc said the same thing to me about the miscarriage, however we held out until 7 weeks for the u/s just to find the heartbeat. He also told me we would not be doing a repeat blood test because if it didnt double the first time it probably wouldnt double and it would just worry me.  Just look for the numbers to rise!  Good Luck to all!

That makes sense--I just wish he was a little more positive, because they weren't doubling exactly, he is considered.  Tomorrow is the big day though!

other thay the 2nd results you levels look good he sayes he wants them to be 32000  on monday because on thursay they were 8291 so on saturday 48 hours later they should have double and should be about 16400 and monday another 48 hours they should double again to around 32800 so to me they look 100% so do not go for a d&c yet i think this looks good let us know what happens on monday good luck

I don't understand your levels doubled in a 48 to 72 hr period this last time, that is considered normal?? What did he say how can they be up to 32000 in that short amount of time?

Dont always listen to the docs. That is exactly what they told me Yes my levels were increasing but not doubling like they should. They are thinking I am like 5-weeks, there is no way as my husband has no sperm and my IUI was July 9 they had me in a huge uproar, scared and said I would not have a viable pregnancy to be prepared although my cervix is closed and ovaries look like. When she did a early u/s she had said it appears to be a gestional sac but cant tell and come back in 2-days I went back and there it was a Yok Sac! Even the u/s tech said I am way to early and the doc thinks I am far enough along, well doc said they automatically add 2-weeks when you come in. I am just pushing a little over 4-weeks. Keep your head up, dont make a quick decision, just take it easy and your body will tell you if its a foreign object and dont want it there.. After she seen the yok sac I can take my prenatals again and she wanted to do another u/s in 2-weeeks I go back tuesday and pray everything turns out well and baby has grown. She had me restricted to no sex, no lifting anything that strains my stomach.. Good luck to you, keep you head up. Here are my levels: 1st Beta: 140 2nd Beta: 540 3rd Beta: 606 4th Beta: 798 5th Beta: 1076

One of doctors' biggest problems seems to be that they think every woman follows those 'textbooks' they read in medical school.  Just because your body is not following the textbook ...he assumes you're going to miscarry.  But like many of these woman have already said ...sometimes hcg levels don't double like the textbook says ...but they are still viable pregnancies!

Most doctors like to give a little hope to their patients.  Your doctor seems to be a very pessimistic person.  He is condemning your pregnancy from the start instead of letting you know that it could just be normal for *your* body.  I do hope you can prove him wrong and give birth to that little baby growing inside you!!

As for him recommending a D&C if he doesn't see anything on the ultrasound ...I agree with Lance06 that you should wait a week (if he wants you to go for the D&C) and go back again for another ultrasound and blood draw.  You may even want to get a second opinion from *another* doctor.  If you really are miscarrying (which I hope you're not!!!!), then your body will figure it out and let you know.  But right now, it's telling you not to give up hope and not to listen to your pessimistic doctor!!

Good luck and let us know how everything turns out!!

I really hate it when doctors jump the gun a bit.  I've had the opposite problem (my hcg numbers are quadrupling every 72 hours) and my doc says it might be a molar pregnancy, which is scary.  I've been reading a lot and see that because I am breastfeeding, my chances for multiples is really high.  I would think that knowing that, my doctor would have thought about that and focused on the possible positive rather than the negative and taking me on this emotional ride.  I won't find out for another 11 days....I have my good days and bad days.  I will pray for you.  Try not to focus too much on what doctors say and focus on that precious little bundle you have growing in your womb.  The fact that your numbers are going up are a good sign anyway.  And doctors CAN be wrong.  I read a bunch of threads on this one forum about doctors being wrong about miscarriage, suggesting D&C's, women refusing and then having healthy babies a few moths later.  So u/s's and doctors can be wrong.  Go with your gut.  Pray for me - that this is not a molar pregnancy but a good, viable multiple pregnancy instead!
