Haven't been checked for dilation yet...

Hey girls,

I'm 37 and 3. I am reading a lot of different posts stating that many of you have been checked for dilation as early as 35 weeks. Well, I still haven't been checked! Is this normal?! I'm considered "full term" so I feel like my ob should have checked by now.

I have an appointment today, if she doesn't say anything, should I mention it to her? Seems weird to me that she hasn't yet.

Thanks ladies :)

My doctor won't check until 37 weeks which freaks me out because I want to know sooner if I'm dilated. I would def say something if you do not get checked today.

There's really no reason to do it - it doesn't tell them anything useful if you're not showing other signs of active labor. You can be 3cm for six weeks and make no progress or you can go from 0-10 in four hours. It increases the risk for infection and can irritate the cervix which swells it up and keeps it closed. Leaving it alone is really the best policy until you're truly in labor. I know it sounds neat to know what's going on but it really doesn't help to know. The reaction is usually either "OMG I'm only 1cm I'm never gonna have this baby" or "OMG I'm already 3cm I'm gonna have this baby by tomorrow" and neither of those things are true. Patience is your best bet. It'll happen soon I promise! Good luck.

Yes I'd ask just to ask. Never anything wrong to ask a curious question
