Having a beer--No Bashing Pls

Hey guys I know having alcohol is mostly off limits and frowned upon but I have read that having a half glass of wine or a beer every once in awhile is ok especially if your stressed. Stress harms the baby a whole lot more than a 4% alcohol beer. What is your take on it? I kind of feel bad but being in the last few days of my pregnancy I'm freaking and stressing out which I know isn't good for her. I guess I'm just looking for support and input on it. I know its a touchy and debatable subject

There are other ways of releiving stress? Try meditating. Deep breaths, encouragung thoughts. Whatever your stressing about will take its course with or without you stressing.

It's a shame that so many people are encouraging you to drink.  People who are irresponsible while pregnant make me sick. Just because your child was lucky to be born healthy doesn't mean your DANGEROUS actions are safe.

Agreed ^ this forum is full of women who do whatever they want because "I smoked and drank my whole pregnancy and my baby is fine" and "my dr gives me personal advice instead of medical advice" what's the point in learning what can and can't harm your baby if people are gonna do it anyway. I hope all your children are ok because a woman's irresponsible decisions tend to go sour after their luck runs out

I personally wouldnt do it. I had a sip of wine my last pregnancy and felt so guilty and horrible afterwards. This time all I had to do was sniff my husbands drink and I was good. I would agree with asking your doctor instead of asking a forum of women.

I wouldn't but you have clearly made your decision regardless of what anyone else has to say.

I can not believe how many people are saying do it? Definitely not. If you are close, you can wait! Anything you put in your body goes to your baby! That one beer will affect your baby, more then it will you. Why don't you call your doctor and see if it is okay? That is just pure selfish. Being a mother means putting your child's needs before yours. You have a few days left. You should learn what that means. WOW

1 should be fine.  Just don't drink in excess. Which I think you understand because you said once in a while. These last few days can be brutal.

I drink near beer or non alcoholic beer and it does the trick for me! But as someone who has studied early childhood education I just wouldn't want yo risk an actual beer even if the risks are low. Btw to those saying "back then they didn't have rules of what to do and what not to do and people were fine" are full of it! There were lots of medical problems due to actions during pregnancy,  sure people survived but not without some sort of side effect believe it or not! There is a reason we have rules and guidelines now, because there has been much more research(yes it is changing thats why it is so important to educate yourselves)! My sister in law smoked during pregnancy and my niece had a lot of respiratory infections.  Just remember that it is so different for EVERYONE just because one pregnancy turned out great does not mean each one will with the same risk!

Back 50 or so years ago there wasn't any 'do this and don't do that' at the end of the day it's your body. If you want to drink, have a drink. If you want to smoke, have a ciggie... I smoked with my first pregnancy and she was a healthy 9lb 10 baby girl. I've cut down with this pregnancy but it's my choice. Everyone has their own opinion so why should we be judged by others for having a voice? No one has the right to dictate what anyone should and should not do. There seems to be too many girls/ladies that are too quick to pass judgement on here. Each to their own xxx

They are now saying its ok for pregnant women to smoke a cig or two a day would you do that?  Now a days they let people do more harmful things.  This is why allot of babies are born with birth defects.  Look on YouTube the instant effects of alcohol on fetus. As soon as its in your blood it causes baby tojump and jolt. Remember that goes to your baby's blood too don't be selfish think of your baby.  I don't even drink soda or coffee.

It probably wont do any harm but if ur feeling guilty about it try to find a different outlet for ur stress. And for drinking while bfing pumping and dumping is a myth and it wont amp up milk production it just makes for a easier let down u only pump n dump for relief from engorgement its still in ur blood so it will be in the new milk made alcohol peaks 30 to 90 minutes after consumption

Alcohol can also act as a relaxant which can stop early labor in its tracks. If you want baby out here soon, I wouldn't drink.

This one, time I ended up at the hospital for nonstop vomiting. ..doctor recommended take a cup of wine you'll be fine lol. Its okay to take wine especially if you're out of your first trimester. I would. I've been craving wine. Just be careful on the intake. Of course we all know that. (:

What she said. One beer doesn't have nearly e ough alcohol in it to worry about in your breast milk.

Pumping and dumping is not effective. And it takes a considerable amount of alcohol to affect your breastmilk. Just found that out in class. So no a beer would not cause you to have to Alter a feeding. But that's way down the line anyway.

This apparently is a touchy subject I've seen blow up horribly in the past. But you're in your last few days, and you're being careful. I say enjoy the heck out of that beer. Also hops are apparently good for your milk supply!

yea i wouldn't drink if you're breastfeeding either because it stays in the breast milk. but you can always pump and dumb. like bump it out and dumb the milk and wait for the alcohol to come out of your system. got that off a tv show lol.

I personally wouldnt, but I did accidentally gulp some of a screwdriver my last pregnancy and everything was okay. If you are breastfeeding you might want to see how long the alcohol stays in your milk especially since your baby could arrive anytime now.. I wouldn't know I didnt breastfeed. Try to enjoy these last days of pregnancy and sleep lol. Good luck
