It's actually your saliva not the gum itself (forgot that part), so when the gum looses flavor get a new piece. good luck.
In addition to tums, bananas decrease stomach acid along with chewing gum (no mint flavors!). And avoid mint it relaxes your esophageal sphincter. I had cramps to oddly enough only the left side but i think it depends on where baby implants and how your stretching to accommodate baby.
Tums and Mylanta are the ones that were recommended to me. Mylanta is just gross. The Tums are gross too but more tolerable. They taste like fruity chalk but for me they work. Tums are calcium tablets and should be just fine to take.
With my first baby, I had heartburn throughout. I ate Tums like candy..didn't always do the job, but it's pretty much the only thing pregnant ladies are allowed to have.
Oh, and cramping early on is pretty normal too - I had little bouts of it here and there with this pregnancy, my 2nd.
Ask your dr. whether you can take an antiacid and which one they prefer. The cramping can be from all the changes in your body and/or a pregnancy cyst which is common in pregnancy. It usually stops by second trimester. Make sure you are staying well hydrated during pregnancy. Baby needs lots of water.
Tum, Tu-Tum, Tum TUMS!!!!!!!!!!!
And cramping can be normal on one side more than the other if it is the side baby implanted on or you may have some round ligament pain. I had it in early pregnancy as well and was worried. If the pain grows in intensity and does not relent it's time to visit the ER. Otherwise it can be normal and does not always signify ectopic pregnancy.
