Most times you can't HEAR a heartbeat until 9-10weeks, but you can see it as early as 6weeks. It's normal

I just wanted to let you know that we were unable to detect a heartbeat via u/s yesterday.  My doctor is a little concerned because I still have low, slow rising hcg levels.  I'm going to get another u/s next week to see if there has been a significant improvement.

I think it could be different for every pregnancy/every woman/every baby.

My OB-GYN is hoping to detect a heart beat next week via vaginal ultrasound (I should be around 6 weeks and 3 days when they do the scan).  I'm a little surprised they haven't detected it via vaginal u/s yet, but I don't think it's abnormal to not hear a heart beat at just 8 weeks.

I've even heard of it taking up to 12 weeks (in some cases) to hear a heartbeat by doppler.  When my doc can't get it on the doppler, he will normally do a quick scan to make sure he can see it.

Sometimes it depends on the thickness of your body too.  If you are overweight it can take longer to hear or see either way.

Were they able to see the heartbeat on the ultrasound?

Some don't hear one until 10 weeks...don't worry......If everything else looked OK....you'll probably hear one at your next appt.!

Yeah that could not be more true. I'm glad to hear anything, since my doctor has kept me in the dark. Which keeps my mind wondering.

Yes, if its a doppler. IF it was with an ultrasound then they can usually find it and measure it. They did mine at 7w1d the first time, but it took until I was 11 weeks or so to pick it up on the doppler.

Lol, I guess I just repeated Shannon's post. Well, I guess if you hear if from more than one person its even better, right?

Do you mean hearing it through the doppler or through an ultrasound? If you mean through a doppler, than it is quite normal to not hear the heartbeat that early on. If you mean by ultrasound, at 8 weeks they should have detected the heartbeat but that doesn't mean something is wrong if they didn't detect the heartbeat through an ultrasound.
