Heart or ambition?

Hi, I'm new to this site and was hoping for some advice :)
I'm 23 and my partner is 25, we've been together for almost 5 years now and we both want to stop the contraception and try for a baby! However, I've always thought that I would get myself a career first and then start a family, this is also how my parents see my life panning out. My parents are great, and will be supportive no matter what. We're both sensible and realistic about life and know how difficult (and wonderful) having a child will be.
So, should I follow my heart or my ambitions?
Also, my Dad is 81 years old and I really want him to still be around to see me become a Mum!
I understand this isn't a decision to be made lightly, I just worry that the only thing really stopping us is the fact that we're too scared! Does this mean we aren't ready just yet?
Sorry it's a bit long, thank you for reading :)

Just because you're scared or nervous doesn't mean you're not ready, having a baby is a huge step and its natural to be scared of new things.  Having a baby is hard but such an exciting and crazy journey so if you and your partner are ready go for it you can still get a career after baby comes!!!!  Good luck on your decision!

Ahhh, I've been taking Microgynon since I was 16! Hopefully it won't have a long term affect!

Depo perova I believe is the right term.
Its a birth control shot.
Instead of taking pills.

My prenatal vitamins are gummies lol

I'm sorry, but what's depo?

Bebe579, thank you :) part of my problem is that I'm not sure what I want my career to be. I went to uni and thought I had everything planned out, but life doesn't work that way. I'm currently working my way up in an industry I don't particularly want to be in. Also, Congratulations :)

It's completely your choice after having my son I actually went to college and did better than I would have done without him now expecting number 2 and then starting university in a year or 2 because its given me more of a reason to get a proper career xx

Thanks for replying :)
This is also what my friend said, don't necessarily try for a baby just see what happens!
It is something I definitely want, I'm just not sure when the right time is. I don't suppose there is a right time is there!?
And congratulations! :) x

I was in the same boat this summer. Halfway through my masters degree and my husband and I really wanted to start a family. I am 30+4 today and will defend my thesis in May before baby arrives in June. If you want a child and are capable of caring for one, then go for it. Having a baby won't prevent you from having a career. Just changes the timeline a bit. Now instead of going after my PhD next year I will be taking a 10 month teacher certification program and possibly finding a job in a local school district. Or maybe working as adjunct faculty at the university. My immediate plans changed, but for the better. Teaching at either place would give me so much more time at home with my family. You just have to decide what is most important to you. To me it was being a wife and a mother and remaining close to our support system. I can get a PhD furtherdown the rroad if I choose to...

I got off depo last April and got pregnant first in October.
Miscarriage happened, unaligned chromosomes like they all say. Understandable since I was on depo. So be patient if at first you don't get pregnant depending on what BC youre on.

Depo is bad. Just saying.

If your try to get pregnant & it happens, it happened!!
:) that's how I see it.
Ive been with my husband for 2 years now and my family wanted a new baby in the family.
So this will be our 2 and pregnancy , first baby ( hopefully)
My husband and I both have a career but it still makes you nervous.
As long as you have support , you'll be just fine.
Just make sure its something YOU want.
