Heartburn

Who here gets heartburn and what do you do about this? Do you avoid certain foods?

I seem to get it all the time and I hate it. What can I do about this?

i had HORRIBLE heartburn and would take tums like they were candy thru the night. well they say women who have a lot of heartburn during pregnancy have children with a lot of hair.....as you can see that was tru for me  :)

By the way, Rolaids has a fruit punch flavor that is actually pretty good. I know rolaids and tums tend to be chalky and nasty, but I'd recommend the fruit punch.

Avoid anything citrus, and most red foods, like spaghetti, tomato soup, ravioli, pizza, etc. ( well basically anything  that has to do with tomatos)  not that you eat all of these things regularly...but it is never good for heart burn.. Mine got so bad that even WATER gave me heartburn. I would suggest drinking milk (or chocolate milk in my case, I love it!), and take tums or rolaids as soon as you feel it starting.

Hello, I just wanted to add I had heartburn constantly through my entire 3rd trimester.  I could ear a chili dog or a tuna sandwich or sometimes drink tea and I would get it.  ANYTHING would give it to me.  My dr finally told me to take Zantac (or the generic) 1 time a day, then let me go up to the max version.  I finally found help in getting the one w/the smaller dose and taking one in the morn and one at night....it did the trick!!

My doctor Ok'd Pepcid AC. you can get generic for 1/2 price of the name brand. Just compare labels to be sure your getting the correct medicine. it works well enough for me but I carry antacids just in case.

I have it all the time too, I found that rolaids work alot of the time, but a bowl of cereal before bed help alot too.. It lets me sleep alot of the time, otherwise I try not to drink to much, which I am huge water drinker, that is all I drink, if I flavor it than it is ok, bed makes it worse and tomato anything.. So I am just looking forward to it being over, I only have it when I am pg.. so at least there is an end to it all...

I am 35w and have had it most of my pregnancy.  Tums and rolaids helped at first, but then it got worse.  My doctor prescribed me Protonix.  He said it is the prescription form of prilosec which is also safe to take during pregnancy!!  Good luck, and hope you find something that will make you feel better!!
