House mice?

Another question on pet droppings has me wondering: I live in the country and we have a perpetual problem with house mice around here. We caught about a dozen in our last round of trapping (yuck, I know) and I just heard squeaking again so it wouldn't surprise me to discover that despite our best efforts, we've got another litter. The cold weather always sends them looking for shelter this time of year.

Other than hantavirus and general irrititation, should I be concerned? Do I need to go to the extremes of not sweeping up droppings or  not emptying traps myself?

I would use gloves while doing this if you have to do it. But if would be better to have someone else empty the traps if at all possible. If no one else can do it, it's better to have them cleaned up then to leave them there.

I agree with the previous poster - have someone else do it. This is a site with some info, but maybe not as relevant for this question since it is about domesticated animals:

Also use a mask if u have to clean it up but if possible have someone else do it.

Correction....I just did some research..do not come into contact with the dead mice their droppings or any surfaces the mice have come in contact with.  U can contact a disease called lvcm which is dangerous to an unborn baby. Have a non pregnant person dispose of the mice and their droppings and clean infected areas with bleach to kill the virus.  Also winterize ur home to keep them out and call in an exterminator.  Also notify ur ob u have had contact with rodents so they can monitor things.  Good luck
